I watched some YouTubes last year recommended by a guy at Cross Creek, but I can’t remember the name of the pruner now. Do you have some favorites? The volume of information is a little overwhelming which is why I posted the question on reddit instead of (really in addition to) googling.

I was at the Village Cafe having lunch with a friend when we say the smoke. We paid our tab and walked over to Grace at Shafer and were hit by the heat of the fire. I lived on that block, on the same side of the street, but at the other end. I grabbed a bag and some clothes, and almost wasn't allowed to move my car (which was parked off the alleyway). The next day, a group of us walked down West Broad Street with Bill Pantele, who was then the president of Richmond City Council. It was like walking through a war zone, with cars melted to the street, and debris everywhere. Beyond some water damage to my apartment, I made it out unscathed

I did too. Virginia is an absolute nightmare as a renter. The laws in this state are so slanted in favor of landlords it's absurd/obscene. You are absolutely 100% at their mercy with little to no recourse if they decide to fuck you. A couple winters with a broken heat pump and a big annual rent increase as a cherry on top was all the motivation I needed.

We don’t know if he was even aggressive, and even if he was, we don’t know whether he would have been if the police hadn’t treated them how they did. Jail wasn’t ‘the last resort’. How you treat someone, and how you get them to a treatment facility, makes a lot of a difference. All he did was take some lights from a neighbor because he was in an affected state, and the police were called on him. He was denied his medication

The job becomes a lot easier if people are treated like patients and most importantly people

To your point about pay, yes the medical system and especially mental health, needs to have better pay. The unfortunate part about that is that the money is currently put into what’s most ‘profitable’… and what is that? It’s certainly not inpatient care for non-millionaires—that’s for sure. The healthcare system needs to be pressured by the government to put more money into necessary but not super profitable systems of care. And to prioritize preventative efforts that will prevent people’s health from getting worse. The same thing happened with pediatric wards and childrens specialist positions being cut from hospitals to accommodate covid but not being converted back, leading to the RSV outbreak this fall being deadly for kids

Ours went up by $5. I think after the many, many maintenance requests we’ve had to file this year and how they can only do the bare minimum since the owner won’t return any firm of communication that they’re throwing us a bone.

I agree there are too many slumlords and abusers of the system but It's not always in someone's interest to buy.

I would never move to a new city and buy without living there for a year and assessing the areas. College students aren't going to buy a house to go to school for a few years. People who have catastrophic damages at their homes need to rent somewhere while repairs happen (insurance pays for the rental). Safety concerns with a spouse or live in partner creating the need to move out and rent.

Your blanket statement is asinine.

Obligatory, not a landlord

I lived 2 blocks away and wandered over in the middle of it. Even a full block behind the building with a parking lot between us it was too hot to stand there. Had to hide behind a brick wall and peek out or walk back to the far side of the street. Craziest fire I've seen in person, and really had me questioning going to VCU after Gaston flooded the whole place as well.
