The massive pile of wood chips from ChipDrop is mocking me this morning so that’s what I’m tackling today.

I’ve also been working on befriending a family of crows that live on my property. Today is the first day they came down to feed with me standing nearby. 🖤

Teamvision just did my front yard. They hauled away tons of pine needles and pine cones, and mulched several garden beds for me. They did a great job. The owner, Joel Lopez, was super friendly and personally came out to give me my estimate. I thought the price was fair as well. I have his business card at home if you want more info

I left a good review with a side note that the seating wasn’t very efficient at the time and he responded with snark. Stopped going once Riverbend leveled up. I should’ve done so after paying $9+ for a specialty drink tbh.

We need more coffee competition here. That’s how I measure how far along a city is in its boom. We don’t even have late night cafes yet.

>And, as my CJR colleague Alexandria Neason told me recently, “I view the term Black as both a recognition of an ethnic identity in the States that doesn’t rely on hyphenated Americanness (and is more accurate than African American, which suggests recent ties to the continent) and is also transnational and inclusive of our Caribbean [and] Central/South American siblings.” To capitalize Black, in her view, is to acknowledge that slavery “deliberately stripped” people forcibly shipped overseas “of all other ethnic/national ties.” She added, “African American is not wrong, and some prefer it, but if we are going to capitalize Asian and South Asian and Indigenous, for example, groups that include myriad ethnic identities united by shared race and geography and, to some degree, culture, then we also have to capitalize Black.”

I'm getting my yearly bonus on Friday and putting in my notice. My wife encouraged me to take some time off. So, I might need a job in a few months.

What is Get Tight Lounge like? Would it be amenable on a Saturday night to a mid-30s couple who just want to drink a few cocktails and listen to music? There’s a show there Mar. 4 that looks good but I don’t want to burn our one babysitting night of the month if it’s gonna be packed to the brim with college kids partying.

We ended up having a couple of properties that we rent. What you describe feels immoral to me, but in landlord discussion groups, they seem to have this obsession with "market value", which is an unfair simplification of things (not to mention fully ignores the supplier's role in tacitly agreeing with other suppliers to inflate the value and then blame "the system" when questioned).

Unless you find someone decent and who willfully chooses to reject all that rhetoric (people on that side like to act like they have no choice over pricing, yet we have been charging well below market value in our rentals and haven't gone bankrupt or had any catastrophes happen in almost a decade), chances are it will be difficult to find a fair price. Because a ton of greedy people gravitate towards renting, since the are almost no protections to the renters.

Your best bet will be small landlords (who usually make a living other way and happen to have a side thing with rentals). Word of mouth is best, in my experience.
