Respectfully, people don’t often express concerns to student journalists in the same way that they do in a professional newsroom setting. I don’t have an abundance of people looking to me to report their issues. And even as professional journalist, it is often finding someone willing to speak on whatever it is you are covering.

It has not at all been written, I am just aware that an important part of this story is finding someone who has dealt with these issues themselves. The story in this case is relating the adoption of this resolution to issues that residents within the city have dealt with for years. Sometimes it happens the other way around. It’s all still finding news.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check them out.

Costco is where it’s at for generic Flonase, Claritin and Claritin D. I was using the generic Claritin D for a while because it’s the most effective, but it was causing my blood pressure to be slightly elevated. My doctor recommended Flonase once a day and add Claritin in when it gets bad. It’s worked for me since last summer so far!

I'm under contract (FTHB 🥳) and a tad stressed about the appraisal coming in low. I ran some comps in the Henrico RE database and it wasn't returning much as high as our price/SF (about $270). I also felt like the results were incomplete i.e. some other houses we looked at did not show up in the list.

we have a LOT of corporate headquarters. A lot more expensive jobs than people on this sub tend to think. Hence the really high household income in western henrico.

Austin got the huge tech market after it was a hot place to live - being cool brought in the tech companies, not vice versa.

Right, but big plants don’t drive CoL increases because they are built far outside the city, and the people that work there typically live/build houses in more suburban/rural outlying areas where there aren’t many constraints on land availability (so people moving there do not really increase the prices).

The Gulf Coast has hundreds of large manufacturing facilities that employ millions of people, and is one of the fastest-growing areas of the country in terms of population. Yet Gulf Coast cities have some of the lowest CoL in the country.

we can get far more dense. There is so much open land left in Richmond. Even in places like the Fan and Museum District.

Don't understimate the impact of being so close to the DC metro, so much nicer, and so much cheaper. Doesn't take all that much of Nova to move here to change this place dramatically

Basically, yeah.

I actually got to meet her. I definitely wouldn't call her a policy wonk. But she's not just a flaming radical shit-stirring idiot, either.

But she hasn't been able to translate this into her campaigns or public image. I think it is quite possible she could be good. But as you said, she appears to run largely on vibes alone.

That's why I wonder why she doesn't run for city council where it looks like she can win at least two districts. Or take a job in state or local government instead of just being a lobbyist. Show people that there's more to her than just slogans and memes.

I know, I know!

It's how RVA felt the day they moved here. Anything before that or after that was bad.

Was reading an article on Austin in the New Yorker yesterday, with a quote telling someone in the 70s that Austin really peaked in the 60s. Captured what you are saying perfectly

aren't reporters supposed to report news, not create news? This sounds like the story is written and now you are plugging things in, which would be the reverse of how it is supposed to be, that's PR.

But look at all the RRHA tenant complaints that come up about bad maintenance and you should find someone. Or go down to Southwood on Hull.

Ironically the RRHA, a city dept basically, leads the area in evictions and maintenance complaints. If the city cared they would put their own house in order first
