If you have about 3 hours midday and are a foodie, i would recommend Rhode Island Red Food Tours. They share some great bits of history and the food you sample is really delicious and varied. It covers several blocks downtown, both sides of the river. Lots of great murals and architecture.

I had a group of about 6 friends come to town in October and we all did the tour together.

Confirming the gasometer, it looks like the Providence Gas Company had operations in that area, according to an 1882 map which has both circular buildings marked. The building was on the block bounded by Crary St. on the north, Borden to the south, Hospital to the east, and Clay to the west. Today, it's the Eddy St. exit of of I-95 South (Exit 19, formerly 36 B).

I was making fun of you.. lol 🤦

I mean, you people aren't the brightest bulbs of the bunch whatsoever, but I definitely didn't think I'd have to spell it out for you.

On one side you have conspiracy theory cuck's like the Qanon bunch. Need I say more?

On the other you have a bunch of virtue signaling tools who get their fix flexing their moral superiority in an effort to appear better than the next person. This is a very common trend within this subreddit/echo chamber.

OP is not only a TOOL, but a HUGE coward.

They even took extra steps to prove so by running to the internet after sneaking a photo of a stranger (like a fucking creep by the way) with their back turned rather than addressing their issue right there and then with the person.

Like I said, cowardly stuff from someone with too much time on their hands. At the end of the day though, that's their curse, not mine.

Good luck with all that!

Bunch of dorks for real.

As bad as it is, it could have been even worse here. The Henderson Bridge that's being replaced now was built to be the first link in an expressway that was supposed to blast through the east side. Basically instead of ending downtown, route 10 would have continued through downtown, over College Hill, over the Henderson Bridge, through EP, and rejoin 195 somewhere around Seekonk. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henderson_Bridge_(Rhode_Island)#Henderson_Expressway)

Also Route 37 was supposed to continue through Warwick over the bay via a new bridge to Barrington, joining up with 195 as well. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhode_Island_Route_37#Proposed_extensions)

295 too is only half of what was supposed to be a full ring road incorporating the Jamestown & Newport bridges, and a new highway up Aquidneck Island over a new Mount Hope Bridge, through Bristol, crossing 195 and linking up with the existing 295 in Attleboro. In Boston, I-95 was supposed to continue running north of the I-93 interchange parallel to where the train tracks are today.

Boston won the fight to stop it, Providence lost its fight. Its crazy to think about how much worse Boston would probably be with that highway there, and how much better Providence would be if it wasnt split in half.

I know the state bought up a bunch of land along the shore to extend and connect the bike path to the Washington Bride bike path. So it’s possible the state owns this land and hasn’t been updated on that map? The state was buying just strips not whole lots. Could also be a deeded easement, which would give state some property rights but probably wouldn’t show up on the GIS map.
