Please don't go to a gay bar's 18+ night if you're not queer. Edit:I'll agree that non queer people are welcome in American queer spaces when murder rates for queer and non queer are equal, when the US government/courts don't explicitly allow places like adoption agencies to discriminate against queer people, when one of two major political parties isn't explicitly attacking queer people in their discourse and policies, when a queer person can approach a potential partner without fear of a violent response, when members of the supreme court aren't explicitly saying that they want to ban gay marriage, when a major news network doesn't regularly demonize queer people, when companies don't get online backlash for having queer people in movies tv shows ads etc, when bullying/harassment rates between queer and non-queer people are equal, etc etc etc. Not saying non queers should be banned from those spaces, but I am saying they should avoid them. There's plenty of academic empirical peer reviewed research supporting my point if anyone actually wants to get better informed about this (e.g. Boystown. There Goes the Gayborhood).

How is this related to Providence in any way? Is Tiverton in Providence now? That’s news to me.

Why not post this on /r/RhodeIsland? Right - you can’t because you’re banned from there for being a spammy troll.

Take your dogwhistles somewhere else please. This post is useless, especially here. This isn’t your personal subreddit to spam golocalprov. What a joke of an organization.

E: telling that there’s removed content on this post but the post itself remains. Hey mods - if you don’t care to take the role seriously then relinquish the right to people who will actually enforce the rules. This isn’t relevant to providence. Why does this user continually evade rule enforcement? /u/m1327. And please address the content and don’t be too offended you were tagged. You clearly don’t review reports. Thanks buddy.

From the article:

On Monday, BLM RI PAC released the following statement:

"On Thursday evening February 2nd, 2023, Shea High School's boys basketball team played an away game at Tiverton High School. During the game racial slurs were heard from spectators, such as the n-word and other slurs, as well as making monkey noises when players were taking their free throws. It was reported to us that parents and students from Tiverton were the culprits. We have received these allegations from multiple students, student athletes, teachers and parents who attended the game in support of Shea High School.

This culture of blatant racism is still alive, not only across the country but right here in Rhode Island. This is a startling trend, as just recently racist and discriminatory propaganda was found at one of our local state colleges. We are deeply saddened not only for the student athletes but also for any family, friends, or community members that had to witness such heinous acts. It's a surprise to us that the town of Tiverton would foster a culture where outright racism is tolerated. We demand those who committed these vile acts be brought under investigation by the Tiverton School District, the town of Tiverton, and the Rhode Island Department of Education. The use of racist and intolerant language has no place in our society and especially our schools."
