this is such a shitty narrative, there are over 1400 apartments currently available in providence. included the brand new apartments they literally just built across the street from this area, as well as underused properties in the jewelry district or whatever it’s called now. people deserve available green spaces.

I also moved to Providence from NYC for cost of living and quality of life reasons. My work is 90% remote, so I just go to NYC a few days every month. My husband works a remote job based in Boston, and he commutes there once or twice a week. We have a car, but sometimes we go months without using it, since everything is walkable in our neighborhood (Federal Hill). We just walk 20 minutes to the Amtrak/Commuter Rail station. I’ve never taken the bus here since the one time I wanted to take it to visit a friend who lives a bit more outside the center of things, the bus I wanted to take was cancelled. If the weather is bad, we just take Ubers if we are going out or need to go to the train station.

1 thing I learned is the difference of what you can get is contingent if you still have the original catalytic converter. That's where the easy money is 1st, and depending on what type of car and amount of damage will determine if it goes to an actual junkyard for pick/pull of the good parts.

Lol - no one is making bank adding $.02 to checks that average $5-8. Unless he built the POS system himself, not sure how it would be his fault even? I could see someone building one applying sales tax to each item vs the total bill which could add a cent per item depending on how prices lined up.

Odinis in East Providence -- from the outside it looks unprepossessing but the food is spectacular (I always read the whole menu then get the same entree, the one with clams 😆) .. it's Portuguese

Bayberry beer hall is my spot for special occasions. Bayberry garden is also quite the dining experience. The beer hall is a lot more casual with superb beers, wines, and food

It's reopened with a whole new space on the second floor! So, between people who got out of the habit of going there during the pandemic, and those who don't know about the new space upstairs, it's likely to offer more available space with less pressure to move on than it has in decades. And it has teas and food.
