That Kaufman's was a magically "fancy" place for a girl from 84 - until I worked there during the Christmas season in college. Then it filled me with a burning hate. Still miss the Xmas display windows though.

Blown transformers usually show up on PulsePoint and no one reported loss of electricity.

Some people were saying it was kids setting off M80's. One person said that they were told they were being thrown from a vehicle in Mt. Lebanon and Dormont but I am not sure how true that is. Others said they were being set off in a park.

I chose to live here because at the time I was 27, I wanted to live IN the city, and I found a nice apartment that checked all the boxes here.

I also grew up in urban areas, and I used to skateboard all over the city as a teen in the early 00’s. Suffice it to say, normal city issues don’t really bother me that much at all, and are worth the conveniences of living in a dense urban area.

I can’t stress enough how much value walkability adds to my life. I fucking hate driving, and avoid it as much as possible. I love being able to walk basically everywhere I need to go for life’s necessities in 10 mins or less.

I like the parks, I like the river trails, I like living in a central location, I like being close to friends, I like having the city at my fingertips.

I just don’t like the odd chance that a bullet might hit me or one of my neighbors, and for that reason I’m leaving. I understand why people like the burbs, but that’s just not me. When I leave the city in a year or so, it’ll be to my farm in the middle of nowhere.

Definitely loud enough to cover long distances. The fact that it was multiple noises lessens the likelihood it's a transformer, since multiple don't usually blow at once. So I don't know.

I'm going to double down on transformers and assume it was just Autobots landing and planning their attack on earth.

Aralia spinosa

>Aralia spinosa, commonly known as devil's walking stick, is a woody species of plant in the genus Aralia, family Araliaceae, native to eastern North America. The various names refer to the viciously sharp, spiny stems, petioles, and even leaf midribs. It has also been known as Angelica-tree. This species is sometimes called Hercules' club, prickly ash, or prickly elder, common names it shares with the unrelated Zanthoxylum clava-herculis.

What I miss about Kaufmann’s is the bakery on their balcony. Mmm..the custard pies, the multitude of Christmas cookies, Italian and French breads. I also miss their fabrics in their sewing department, some beautiful stuff I could never afford at the time.

I will always carry my fear of elevators because of Kaufmann’s… Was on a packed one when it stopped at a floor, doors didn’t quite open but the car proceeded to drop 6-8”. It caught and went back up, but when the doors opened I never saw so many people empty an elevator that fast.
