Alright I'll break this down the best I can as a non-expert. The burn was on 2/6. The pollution that it put in the air has come and went. Sounds like areas to the north east of us had some acid rain as a result, though I don't know how much of that is confirmed. Acid rain isn't good but it's common for our area.

The biggest concern right now is for the soil close to EP and the water. The Issues with the water are that the contaminants can make their way into the aquifer and drain into waterways. Apparently chemicals can stay in an aquifer for a long time and can contaminate well water. That's why it's so important that people in that area get their water tested, and might need to for a while. The contaminants that are draining into waterways will make their way into the Ohio river which is taking it away from Pittsburgh toward the Mississippi. Communities down river from EP that source their water from the Ohio river will need to monitor the levels to ensure the water is safe. So far though the contaminants seem to be diluted to safe levels. Either way, Pittsburgh isn't affected.

Again, not an expert. Just someone following the news closely.

Compared to the Boston area (not in the city of Boston) i can get way more for my money renting. It's also what you make of it. I don't need the newest nicest place, just clean and safe. It could be as expensive as you want it to be.

I feel like groceries can be expensive but that's probably more to do with the economy/supply chain issues than anything else.

This is my first time with gas heat so the bill feels like a lot there, but if you do budget billing, it would probably be less shocking month to month.

So I'm curious as to why you picked that spot in the first place. Full disclosure, I grew up in Shaler where fortunately the crime was minimal in general. Aside from the random domestic incidents which really only ended in murder like 1% of the time, the rest of the crime could probably be attributed to the same morons I went to high-school with. Really all petty stuff. I was also frequenting other areas down that way for whatever reason. North side, Brighton Heights, Spring Garden, Millvale & Etna of course, so I did often venture out of my safe space.

Never in my life did I once consider anything south of Reserve Township as a place I'd want to live. I once worked with someone who came in from Westmorland County growing up in one of those cookie cutter housing developments off the highway. She told me they bought a house in the Mex. War Streets for like Half a million dollars. This was probably 15 years ago. I was astonished. Not only that but listening to her complain about really just general city living type stuff but also the crime and petty stuff like ppl smoking weed on the street and public urination etc. Like what do you expect?

I guess my suburban thought is, why the fuck would you choose to live there when you can spend the same amount and live in a suburb that maybe adds 20 min to your commute but alleviates dealing with all that bullshit?

Not gonna disagree with carvana being sketchy financials right now.

But absolutely do not trust any dealer to inspect the car they're selling you... Always take it to a trusted 3rd party.

(doesn't apply if you're buying CPO I guess, since that comes with warranties I suppose)
