Groceries jumped for us over the past year too. This is pretty new. It probably jumped in LA by 15% too

It's extremely affordable. You're not going to find much cheaper

I just recently found out there's a target downtown. I live less than two miles from downtown. As you can see, I don't get out much

Imo fresh herbs don’t always add the kind of dried and ground spice flavor the OP is looking for, just for some insight.

Interesting. What’s a reasonable rent for you for an apt in a decent neighborhood?

I sell real estate and very often people moving from other parts of the country are delighted at the difference in cost of living and housing but as someone else said it depends on where you’re coming from so YMMV

It will always be the Kaufmanns clock. It's still the Marshall Field's clock in Chicago and there's no Marshall Field's anymore, either,

Tried Lotus cumin seed. Wish me luck. Hopefully the double whammy of whole seed and fresher makes the dish.

I'm not the person you're asking, but the answer to your question is going to vary wildly. If you let an agent ream you or use something like Zillow a one bedroom apartment will be over $1,000 a month. If you know how to use craigslist/marketplace and know exactly where you're going you can get a two bedroom for $700
