Yeah I think this is exactly what he’s looking for. The problem is the huge college age population is no longer contained to Oakland as it was when there were actually bars there, so they end up overrunning the whole city because they’re going to drink the most and the club owners will make the most from them. Once you’re 30 everyone thinks your night out should consist of Bravo Italian Kitchen or something.

Their problems run much deeper than DeSmith. Looking on MoneyPuck, based on advanced stats CDS is breaking even - expected goals against equal actual goals against. He is ranked 54th, but take out 7 guys above him with 1 or 2 games played (too small a sample) and he is then 47th, so smack dab in the middle as a backup. While he might be slightly overpaid,

The big issues are slow starts, not winning in OT/SO and losing against bad teams, 3rd and 4th lines scoring a lot less than you expect, and Dumo going from great partner to Letang to barely treading water in a 3rd pairing role. They have no cap room because of contracts given to Carter, Kapanen, and McGinn (not to mention Jack Johnson's buyout is costing almost $2 mil this year, and then almost $1 mil the following three years).

It's been said that Hextall won't trade a 1st, and I agree if it's only a rental with little or no chance to resign them. However, Arizona is trying to tank, and their goalie Vejmelka (8th best goalie on MoneyPuck) is preventing that. He's almost a million more, but he looks to be at min a 1B goalie with high potential to be a 1A, and he has two years after this one. I propose trading Dumo and DeSmith to Arizona for Vejmelka and Ghost. Since they would be retaining salary on Ghost, it would likely cost a 1st and a 3rd at minimum, but it would be worth it IMO.

I still think it’s crazy no one went to jail, if only for a few years, because of this. Wasn’t the manufacturer of the rocket telling them there’s no way they could launch in those temps, and NASA managers pressured them until they reversed themselves? If that isn’t criminal gross negligence (malfeasance? IANAL) then I don’t know what is.

Me and couple friends visited a buddy of mine in Florida for a week during 2020. Steelers game against the eagles when steelers kicked their ass. We’re all decked out in Steelers gear and a table behind us at this nice bar was decked out in eagles gear. So it was basically a fandom competition and any time Philadelphia scores they chanted E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! The last time the eagles scored they chanted one more time E-A-G-L-S EAGLES! Forgetting the E at the end and it still makes me laugh how emphatic they were during the chant not even knowing how dumb they sounded

As someone who used to work in the security field. Shotspotter's entire MO is pandering to local PDs to convince whatever city/town they reside in to spend way too much money for a copaganda piece. They're relatively ineffective at what they're "intended" to do, and great at giving cops an excuse to mobilize to certain areas because "shotspotter went off". Garbage overpriced tech either way

Find the dirtiest dingiest dive one that is possibly in a house with no ventilation and still has smoking. The only way you know it’s a bar is by the lone Budweiser neon in one window. Beer is only bottled. Shots of Kessler’s are mandatory. If you’re lucky, there’s pickled eggs in a jar at the end of the bar. This is the only Pittsburgh way.

You're going to find a broad range of ages at all three places. It's partly going to depend on what music/shows are happening. As others have mentioned, Pittsburgh is more of a drinking town than a club town. We don't like distractions when it comes to booze

The depth is holding us back, not DeSmith. He’ll always be a backup. Can’t rely on the top 2 lines every single game. Grandpa Carter and Kapanen haven’t done crap and are waste of money.

The contracts he gave Carter and Kap are going to hamstring the team this year. I hope he has a plan too. But outside of trading Malkin or Letang I don't see any way to drastically change the roster. The plan for this year was clearly decided in the off-season.

Shadyside has Mario’s and Le Mardi Gras which aren’t too expensive (although heads up Le Mardi Gras is cash only). Both are good places if you don’t know what you want and just want chill. Bloomfield has Froggys, Silkeys, and Lot 17 which are all good neighborhood places. Tina’s down the street is a little more expensive but has a cool vibe and a great list of drinks. New Am in Lawrenceville is good for a 21st, and Bar Botanico is a good spot for a classier cocktail. I love Round Corner Cantina and Grapperia too.

Honestly the best thing might be to hover over an area on google maps and search “bars” and then look at the pics and reviews and menus and see if that fits your plan and budget for the evening!
