Port Richmond is an affordable area, and its really close to several big box stores that will be affordable for families. I'd like to see the area serve as a vanguard/bulwark pushing against Kensington.

It's been a pretty stable area forever.

People will say gentrification, but honestly the alternative is far worse.

I’m moving to South Philly soon, and am really, really excited about it. Pretty familiar with the city as a whole but not too versed with the neighborhood I’ll be living in (closely north of Passyunk Ave, what I assume is between Point Breeze and West Passyunk). Any guidance, pointers, general things to know about South Philly and this area?

It gets crowded and rowdy when it starts to get warm in the evenings on south street. If the atvs show up makes things out of control. There was a mass shooting at 4th and south, and others nearby.

I would personally not live on south im too old for the summer shenanigans there. If you were several floors up, and away from any bars, maybe its worth it.

I’ve gotten a few O gauge engines (prewar and modern) repaired at Joes Train Station on County Line Rd in Hatboro (or Huntingdon Valley maybe). There’s 3 old dudes that work there - one is a dickhead and the other two are awesome.

Giant Heirlooms. Riverwards and KCFC(LOL) The Acme is still new to me. A new discount grocer opened on American. Palm Trees and places like Castellino’s have opened. Ten years ago there were a lot less places.

Several building that were given variances also have an empty floor on the bottom waiting for a grocery to fill.

There have also been produce markets that have come and gone as well.

We’ve seen Green Grow, Green Aisle, Parsley and Sage and others come and go. They don’t all make it.

We also have one of the best Asian grocery stores and Cousins.

i used to go to Bonk's all the time and know the owners and bartenders there well. in fact the only two places i'd go to during the pandemic were Happy Tap and Bonk's.

i always rode my bike there, and if there weren't a lot of people inside they'd let me bring my bike into the bar instead of locking it to the bench outside. solid bar with a good mix of good people, in my opinion.
