Before the Bridget Foy's fire (relevant only for dating purposes) every window had signs in it promising an "Heirloom" coming soon. I assume Giant bought out all the retail and then changed their minds.

I'm pretty sure there were "coming soon" signs for something else there too. Last I checked theyre plain signs now.

I live near here and was recently wondering the same thing so I did some research and found some old newspaper articles about it. It seems it always struggled to consistently attract customers and eventually was demolished. It seemed very cool and modern though. You can still see the old "New Market" sign on the side of the Cavanaugh's Headhouse building.

I couldn't find many photos of it aside from grainy newspaper images. I wish it was more documented.

I got one as a kid outside the zoo. It was Memorial Day Weekend 2008. That turtle is still alive, is female (has laid eggs), and is named Shelley. She's pretty cute and lives in my grandfather's spare bathtub in the winter, and a stock tank in the backyard in the summer. I would not recommend having a red eared slider or really any turtle as a pet to anyone that doesn't already like herps... like a lot.

Edit: I also specifically wouldn't buy a street turtle, like others have mentioned there's a big Salmonella problem, unethical breeding, and they're illegal to own as they're an invasive species

It used to be New Market. I remember going to the Rusty Scupper seafood restaurant there (on the Front Street Side) some time in 76 or 77. I also remember there were a number of retail merchants and artisans on the first and 2nd floor levels. Dickens Inn anchored the Head House side of New Market as well.

The trick for the Mann is to just hang out in the moat between the lawn and pav if you have lawn tickets. As long as you're okay with standing and can get there early enough, it's a great view. I did that for Phish N2 last year and it worked out pretty well. I was lucky enough to score actual seats in the main section for the Tweezerfest N1, which as you mentioned was absolutely face-melting.

I think the nitrous tanks are just a problem everywhere, but the lot scene tends to be so cramped at the Mann that they're all on top of each other and it makes it seem worse.
