Reply to Graduating college but not much money in savings & I lived with parents. How much money should a college grad have saved? by Cute_Construction928
How much of that money did you spend on school expenses -- transportation, books, meals between classes -- whatever your parents didn't cover? (I'm not looking for a full accounting -- just a ballpark).
Yeah, you could've saved more. Hopefully you don't need to borrow to start your Adulting job... my son started his last year and had to move to the next city down the freeway.
Hopefully you have good memories from the money you did spend...or some good material goods you can keep for a while. Having fritterred all that money away on spending you considered stupid would be a shame.
emphasis on YOU. It's not for us to judge the value of your spending choices.

Nowhere. But I’m planning so it’s as easy as it can be. I’m about where I expect to get in my career. An extra 100k out is essentially a year of my working life gone. I’m absolutely prepared to spend what makes sense and live a good life, but I don’t want to be stupid about it.
Plus, with interest rates where they are, the smaller the loan has to be the more we save over time. I’d just like to be responsible so when that dream home comes up we’re in the best position we can be.

Most college grads are negative, so just being positive is a win

You're not behind (currently) but will be if you continue your spending habits. You've been given an incredible opportunity to build wealth at a young age and no debt. Nothing you can do about the past, but start looking towards the future. Read up and start practicing good financial habits.

This right here! Just plan to save. Just think that this is the lowest net worth for the rest of your life. Be INTENTIONAL with your spending is another piece of advice.

if insurance is cutting you a check for 2Kish , the no brainer decision is to fix your Legacy and kick the can down the road, while understanding you'll need to start saving for a new vehicle soon

>Am I really behind now in life?
No. The average 22 year old has negative net worth and has never heard of an IRA. Spend less frivolously (without budgeting for it), and don't get addicted to gambling. You'll be fine.

Simply having a positive net worth means you're doing fine

Having a positive net worth exiting college is monumentally difficult, so congrats you are in a great position and are far ahead of most of your peers

Auto insurance covers you as a driver … any car you drive is insured if you cause damage while insured and auto insurance covers damage to your car.
You don’t need to do anything except let your insurance agent know that the vehicle is in storage. If the car is going to be in storage (garaged) in another state, they need to know, too. Vehicle insurance doesn’t usually move states.

You have a household income of $175,000 and already have over $100,000 in equity from your current home to put down on a new place. You could easily afford the houses in the price range you are looking at now. Where’s your money going? A $400,000 house with 100k down would leave a mortgage payment of roughly $2,000. On your income that is extremely affordable. So where’s your money going? Lol

Geez. Come to the Midwest. Some cities here are about $1500/mo for decent 2br in a decent 'hood.
$400/mo in groceries? Caviar? Just kidding. I am about $300/mo for single person. I do cook a lot and take leftovers for lunches tho
It is doable but a bit on the tight side. Might want to play with numbers between savings and other things. Like I said tho. Make sure this other roomie does not get over their head because if she has to bail, you cannot afford to solo it at $2500/mo rent plus rest.
Do your student loans have interest? If not, defer them to a bit less per month if possible. It there a time limit on them? ( Sorry, I am wayyyy da hell to old to remember or even have student loans so I dont know)

What is the difference between a lease and loan? And where on my paperwork would thus be specified?

Even if it's only their car in their insurance, or do I need to put them on my insurance and they pit my car on theirs???

I need lawn service as it is part of my lease agreement. I'm not able to cut the grass as I am deathly allergic to pretty much every insect.
A cheaper barber is not possible. I'm already getting a better price as it's family.
I'm shopping Aldi and heb but will try and cut down food if possible.
Streaming, yeah I need to cut that.

$1250 each. Lol a wish .. New Jersey. It is quite expensive here and limited on options unfortunately.
This list is all for me, but as I stated groceries and utilities may vary and those are the maximum for EACH. I doubt utilities will be $200 a month total, but am preparing for the highest possibility.

Cancel the lawn service, cut down to 1 streaming service at a time, find a cheaper barber, and eat cheaper foods until you get that debt paid off
cmdrmcgarrett t1_j6iysut wrote
$1250 rent is this being split between you two already? If so, where are you living? Gold Coast.
You need to split this rent, groceries, and utilities between you two. Even if it is a 75/25 split because you make more. Be fair but if you have a roomie, no free rides unless you can really afford it. Looking at this, you need help. As I said even if she is working PT, she can contribute also.
