There is a housing crisis in NYC. You’re going to be affected. It sucks for you. It sucks even more for people that can’t find affordable housing in a city where their family lives and where they grew up. If there is one thing that is constant in this city, it’s change. Every neighborhood changes, and there will always be people that hate that happening.

Was the article only 4 sentences long for anyone else? I thought I was being paywalled or something. I've always been reading elsewhere that the MTA just desperately needs more funding and ridership just hasn't reached pre-pandemic levels to support itself. Something needs to give and I do hope the MTA figures out (with local, state and federal support) how it can continue providing what should be world class services relative to NYC's actual competitors. Albany always dictating so much for NYC also is kinda discouraging to read.

Yes and no. They’re developers. They take financial risk to resurrect neighborhoods. Remember you DID NOT go past Ave A in the early 80s, you just didn’t do that.

Dumbo? Deserted.

Williamsburg? Used to see cars there on fire at 3 AM. Not anymore.

Yes, we all hate developers, some go bankrupt, others build Industry City.

Franklin Avenue, way back when, I saw bodies in the street, another shooting, going to the Deli. Now? It’s hipster central.

A 2 edge sword awaits as they call it.

PS I try to lay low from humans, defer to AI. Much smarter than us. It just is. Life got too complicated, AI seems to do just fine. The more complex and complicated, it loves that kind of stuff. And zero emotional involvement. Not perfect, but sure close.

AI should really take over managing the city. It’s inevitable.

The MTA needs money to fund the subways. Part of the way the MTA earns money is from tolls. If they are able to bring in more money from tolls, they do not need to resort to fare hikes to bring in more money. Hope that clears it up.

You are correct that more people using cars does not encourage subway use. However, car users still generate revenue for the MTA.

There are over 80,000 EMPTY apartments in NYC. My landlord bought out my old rental, sealed it up. For years now, has lost over $300,000 in rental income.

They just don’t care. Waiting for the laws to change.

NYC is the center of the world. To get a $700 a month studio is unrealistic. But that seems like a reality to posters on my Facebook feed. Anything more than that? Blame Airbnb.

Just don’t think that’s going to happen.

So i lived in brooklyn which most of the housing was 2 and 3 family housing. You can still have all of what you like aboutnyour neighborhood with more than just single family houses. The buildings in queens are two story two family housing that take approxiamitely the same footprint as a single family house. Nimby people like you expect things to just stay the same which is ridiculious. Maybe we should tear down all the dense housing andbbring ny back to being open land because nothing should change?
