this is an underappreciated part of commenting on crime in the current age. if you look at the crime numbers in the 80's and 90's it's like comparing apples and....cumquats. the difference is that in 2023, we have Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc, ad infinitum. anyway, this story is sad, and I feel for the kid

I've lived in the UES for 12 yrs. They can ABSOLUTELY turn that shit down when not necessary.

To build on this, how about throwing those big ass truck drivers with train air horns blasting on city streets in prison. Now that is straight up brain damage

They arent going fast because there is traffic.

They are using their sirens to alert those drivers to get the fuck out of the way.

God help you if someone you know ever needs an ambulance and can't get prompt attention because their silent ambulance is stuck in traffic.

First time in a city friend?

I know it’s tough coming from a rural area out in the Midwest to this. Unfortunately you just have to deal with it. Enjoy your stay!

Sure, obviously things could be improved, but come on, it's not like it's hard to get around Manhattan without a car. This isn't a suburb of LA, it's a region with dozens of heavy rail transit lines running 24/7. If Manhattan can't support every other street being car free, literally nowhere else on the planet can.
