this is an underappreciated part of commenting on crime in the current age. if you look at the crime numbers in the 80's and 90's it's like comparing apples and....cumquats. the difference is that in 2023, we have Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc, ad infinitum. anyway, this story is sad, and I feel for the kid

Hey, what can you expect from a project that was billions over budget and delayed more than a decade? They can’t get the schedules right, you think they planned for all trauma to go to Grand Central? That would have required 6 more years and $10 billion more.

I've lived in the UES for 12 yrs. They can ABSOLUTELY turn that shit down when not necessary.
To build on this, how about throwing those big ass truck drivers with train air horns blasting on city streets in prison. Now that is straight up brain damage

They arent going fast because there is traffic.
They are using their sirens to alert those drivers to get the fuck out of the way.
God help you if someone you know ever needs an ambulance and can't get prompt attention because their silent ambulance is stuck in traffic.

This comment is worth $50,000,000 of the MTA consulting budget.

First time in a city friend?
I know it’s tough coming from a rural area out in the Midwest to this. Unfortunately you just have to deal with it. Enjoy your stay!

I’m not arguing with you, we agree. Things can be improved. Thanks.

Sure, obviously things could be improved, but come on, it's not like it's hard to get around Manhattan without a car. This isn't a suburb of LA, it's a region with dozens of heavy rail transit lines running 24/7. If Manhattan can't support every other street being car free, literally nowhere else on the planet can.

I like sitting outside when it's a bit chilly out. I'm all for building up outdoor areas for bad weather

yeah, it's really a bummer in shit weather. however i was recently in paris during some rain and was pleasantly surprised to see lots of folks still opting to use the outdoor seating, granted they were bundled up appropriately!

Buses could run more frequently. The schedule got cut drastically on many routes some years back and never recovered.

I was arguing with a stranger on the street on election night and this guy thought we were fighting and tried to break it up. We both told him “that’s how we talk” at the same time. NYC is a “we yell because we care” kind of town.

Covered open streets is a great idea!
You made a lot of really great points. My previous comment wasn't against open streets, I was just saying they aren't fun in bad weather

... We're saying that Manhattan, specifically, needs more transit options? It's the most transit-accessible region on the continent, I don't know what more you could want if Manhattan is insufficient for you.

Pulling him out of the deli wasn't meant to infect torture. It's a law meant for really specific purposes and the prosecutor tried to stretch it.

Lmao. Dunno why I find this funny. I cant be too upset though, however, because am I really going to complain about potentially using a service that provides more space to passengers? I think not lol.
