It’s wrong (or they’re just lumping all the features together under the R211 umbrella), they only got the first full set of R211Ts a month or two ago. They haven’t done anywhere near the testing they need to do before they do revenue testing.
For comparison they had the first full, 10 car set of R211As since summer of 2021.

Only a small portion of the overall R211 order is open gangway.

Yes they should but it’s not the MTA’s responsibility to build the city, that’s the states job

Well I want congestion pricing to be so high that it keeps the single occupancy vehicles from the suburbs from clogging up the city grid

Ok.. well then maybe don't start the escalator replacement in a busy station until you have all the parts needed in a warehouse. It was planned work, they had notices up months ahead of time. Did they not know what components go into the replacement escalator? Don't think supply chain issues are a valid excuse right now.

There's a Trader Joe's near me that constantly has a broken escalator. Last year it was down for months. I asked an employee one day and they said the service company couldn't get parts.
Same story with a movie theatre elevator a few years ago.

Maybe the article has the wrong info, but from the article:
“The R211s come with:
Security cameras on the ceilings Wider door openings (58 inches compared to 50 inches on existing train cars) Open “gangway” passageways (similar to articulated buses with their “shotgun” layouts)”

This was my exact thought. That smell of homeless is going to have the whole train in a frenzy.

Nah I'd go E. A train goes above ground for part of its journey, and the last stop in queens where it may sit in the station for a while is above ground. No matter how high the heat is blasting, those doors opening when the wind chill is in the teens or lower is a lot worse than trying to stay warm on the E.

This is very wrong and I believe the union leadership sold out its members. There is growing evidence that Medicare Advantage is a giveaway to the insurance industry. Under traditional Medicare, you can go to any doctor you want in the country, there is no pre-approval, and claims are usually not denied. Under Medicare Advantage, you are stuck in a "network", pre-approval is required to see a specialist, and there have been news reports of claims denials. There is growing evidence that Medicare Advantage is problematic. It is really not Medicare and a lot of people feel its a disadvantage

That's not this model. These are R211As, the R211T has the open gangways and hasn't started revenue testing yet. I don't think that's expected until December.

The PPP loan program existed because the government forced businesses to close due to the pandemic. Of course the businesses should be compensated and not forced into bankruptcy because we went through an emergency (which later turned out to be less dangerous than feared). Also, the PPP loans were specifically done so that employees could be kept on payroll and not laid off when everything was forced to close. It wasn’t just a hand-out to business owners.
No one forced anyone to go into debt to go to a liberal arts college.
