It’s only grist for the mill, nothing more. Fish or no fish, who cares? 95% of the post is regurgitated anyway. Easy clicks from people who still have hate boners for Santos.

Hard hitting journalism by the gothamist! The gothamist should get an automod warning similar to the post.

Not to mention it’s $32 billion higher than the city’s spending in De Blasio’s first term.

That's more than the entire GDP of some countries! We really should be doing more to control costs and ensure the money is being used wisely.

How about completely getting rid of rent stabilization so that we don't need to be concerned by details like these?

The key quote to me is this "the city council finance division projects the city will bring in $5.2 billion more in revenue over fiscal years 2023 and 2024 combined than OMB projections."
Just make up numbers and demand to spend the made up numbers now.

Everyone loves using the seatbelt analogy with covid, so how about here? Do you think it's acceptable to have seatbelts in cars that "work better than they used to" or seatbelts that actually work?
When it comes to, oh, I dunno, RAPE, there should be no "there's rape, but not as much rape as there used to be."

One agency is beholden to the Mayor (OMB) and the other isn't. I wouldn't consider one more trustworthy than the other. But I definitely wouldn't consider OMB to be a neutral party of professionals. They were told by Adams to produce what he wanted, I assure you.

Reply to comment by dirtyhypebeast in New times for setting out garbage at the curb start next month to "reduce the amount of rats" by awersF
If you haven't been dealing with it personally, you probably don't get how bad it has gotten in some areas. We had to relocate because of rats. Not talking one or two, talking dozens upon dozens nightly all over the place, in the walls of multiple buildings, etc. They're chewing through wires and spreading disease and parasites to people. Some of them have gotten aggressive enough they're now going directly at people.
The city is overwhelmed with reports, to the point that some of their inspectors don't even show up.
It really seems to be by area.
Given where we were was also one of the highest crime areas in NYC, I can say for sure that the rats were a bigger problem than crime, and I can't think of much worse than the rats for people living there other than maybe starving to death.

During the mid-day and late evening, it is more crowded on weekends than on weekdays. During rush hour it is more crowded than on weekends.
Overall ridership is higher on weekend days than on weekdays, but much more spread out throughout the day rather than just rush hour. This has been the case since COVID and also from ~2000 to 2015, but not from 2015-2019.

Real culprit is not cashless bail. Its speedy trial reform that having a impact on which crimes are prosecuted (mainly high profile incidents) and rest dropped or lesser charges applied in hopes it clears and don't tie up the court systems. If criminals are not prosecuted, why bother to report/arrest to watch them walk back on street to commit more crimes without consequences.

It looks like you shared an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of concerns over privacy and the Open Web. Fully cached AMP pages (like the one you shared), are especially problematic.

Putting a “danger meter” on your bank account is dumb. Cancel all bail, let some rich kids rot on rikers for 12 months before they get to see a judge and tell their side of the story, then see the whole system magically get fixed

The crime is keeping someone rotting in jail for months on end because they were ACCUSED of a crime and dont have the $100 needed in bail to get out while.
Which is something that was happening.

Yeah appreciate that, I'm definitely vocal of opinions, but tried to never let that effect my decisions and appreciated the folks of the sub, like yourself, for giving me grace to do that.
Couple mods (u/paratactical and u/majorfogtime, sorry for pinging you guys but I am talking about ya so felt the thing to do) were demodded, I thought they were good mods and asked the team to vote if we could bring them back, everyone who weighed in voted that they should be mods again(this represented the overwhelming majority of the mod team), within a few hours of bringing the old folks back I was demodded. To be fair I'd been relatively active in questioning some decisions in modmail recently without getting any response, so likely someone became tired of me being a thorn in their side as well.
