The dude started on the wrong trail without a paper map and compass, barely any actual food to cook with his portable stove, and two large knives. Killed a rattlesnake inside the trail cabin he slept in but didn't bother trying to cook and eat it. Then to top his streak of stupidity, he set a tree on fire then walked away hoping it would signal aid. Fuck him

Yep, ACLU took them to court and because of how they worded the law the court ruled that the state has defined any fetus of 6 weeks with a detectable 'heartbeat' as a 'person'.

That wording is how they tried to ban it, but in October last year the actual ban was repealed because Doctors proved to court that the law was too vague of when they could intervene. Along with the fact that when the law was passed Roe vs Wade was still in effect and thus the law was null and void due to being unconstitutional at the time of passing.

Roald Dahl threatened publisher with ‘enormous crocodile’ said he'd be a bit disappointed if they changed his words

I've gone and updated this headline for 2023, since some readers might be troubled by the notion of a crocodile attacking a publisher. If anyone out there was distressed by that mental image, please read my headline instead

There's a difference - there is at least a shared ethnic, linguistic, and cultural heritage that connects a lot of those former Germanic kingdoms and princely states. Also, that union, although quite politically charged as well, had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with the economy. Many people who had been previously displaced actually got reunited with family across the Wall.

Palestine, on the other hand, has ALWAYS been a religious battleground. Not once in its 2000+ year history has there been peace in the Holy Land. And instead of making it not just a Holy Land in name but also in law where Jews, Christians, AND Muslims could all make a pilgrimage to and find peace in prayer, the British, in their infinite wisdom, chose to make it an EXCLUSIVELY Jewish state with no regard for those who already lived there. There was no question of unification or integration or any of that. Same with Partition in India. It was COMPLETELY arbitrary.

Why can't you have different sets of rights for different people?

18 year olds have more rights than 10 year olds. 21 yr olds have different rights than 18 yr olds. There are all kinds of delineations of rights between people. Prisoners have fewer rights than non prisoners. Citizens of a place have more rights than non. Very common.

They will just carve out an exception for this and this lawsuit will end up being a nothing burger.
