I've never worked for a police department but I have worked in various government agencies. Foia/public records work is absolutely soul crushing work. It's regularly used as a dumping ground for people agencies can't fire but want to get rid of, and promising managers (if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere). You have to herd cats to get every office and division that touched something to propose redactions based on their specialized knowledge, and the person ostensibly leading the collection is probably like a 60 year old man who sleeps at his desk half the day and spends the other half posting political Facebook memes, but he's buddies with various muckity muck senior career managers or union stewards so he's untouchable.
When it's all said and done, and records are sent out the day before the judge is getting ready to sanction everyone involved, you get a call from angry officials upset that no one redacted such and such thing that was super sensitive. But those fuckers signed off on it as being fully redacted.
Its a problem of attitude, unpleasant conditions (at the federal level, the time lines are from the pre-digital era), and borderline abuse by politically aligned groups that shift based on the administration, to fish for any sort of juicy dirt and otherwise just Gum up agency resources.
I would quit before having to deal with the process again. I'm all for accountability but the sausage of it is terribly unpleasant to grind and pack.

$19k/year as a para is disgustingly low for what it entails.

Corporate media is a scourge upon our society in today's day and age. Like SOAD said all them years ago...

Too much dicking around and not enough action.
While the us has done a lot I hate the "we might and are going to eventually"
We are supposed to be the arsenal of democracy and my tax dollars paid for it so anything that is not classified and is already in Europe send it to Ukraine.
Send them out older fighters. Send them out older m1 abrams and Bradley's. If we realistically won't need them in the next 5 years and they are already outdated send them
Also send them the ammo they need

Damn that makes a lot of sense since no cop has ever been killed ever.

SUMMER OF 1992 COCOA FLORIDA
I was 18 and I had an argument (with my then 33 year old stripper) girlfriend. I packed my beat up and rusty 1975 Chrysler Córdoba with furniture and hauled my drunk ass, speeding down U.S. #1 (jamming out to Guns N Roses with my Pioneer tape/radio )from Cocoa to Titusville. I was feeling freedom and great. So great that I waved to a cop that was sitting in the median.
About a mile down the road, I see blue lights flashing. I pulled over and he and he walks up to the side of my car and asks, "Do I know you?" I replied, 'No, why?'
His reply, "Because you waved to me back there. I thought I knew you." Nope! Just happy to be getting out of an abusive relationship.
Officer: "What's all that stuff in the back of your trunk?" Me: "I moved out"
Officer: "You been drinking?" Me: 'Yes sir'
Officer: "About how much?' Me: "About a fifth of Jack Daniels"
Officer: "Wow!" You seem pretty sober for drinking that much alcohol. How much further you gotta go and where you going?" Me: 'My parents house, which is about 3 more miles.'
Officer: "Ok, be safe and slow it down. I'm not going to arrest you because your speech is normal and honest and had the guts to be straight with me. Me: "Ok, thank you" (heart racing, thinking; damn I'm going to the slammer and no one's gonna bail me out.)
Similar incidents happened a few times in my late teens and early 20's. Thankfully never got locked up for it. I finally smartened up and realized it was frikken selfish of me and that I could hurt or kill someone.

You can hurt yourself just fine sledding down a hill into a tree next to a corn field.
