I have worked in real estate for nearly a decade and have been involved in over 1000 transactions and I never seen an appraiser lowball a property by 25%. I had one deal where the appraiser was about 10% low. But appraisers don’t work for the bank and have no say in how much money is loaned.

The appraiser here did not follow accepted best practices and while we are not privy to the specifics it seems with the settlement that there must have been some evidence that it was based on race.

We should just institute the Wyoming Rule and be done with it. Reapportion House seats and increase their number so that each district has, as close as possible, the same number of reps per capita as the smallest constituent state.

So, for example, Wyoming's at large district has 578,803 people, making it the least populated state. The last census, under this rule, would have increased the number of House reps and reapportioned them all to each state so that, as best as possible, each rep is representing about 578,803 people.

We saw something similar in Arizona. The republican legislature tried to strip local governments, specifically charter cities, of their autonomy. This would allow the state GOP to impose its will upon locals, regardless of local wishes. Another attempt by the GOP to usurp and consolidate power.

I once worked with someone who was caught processing returns to a prepaid debit card for transactions that other customers did. So if a customer spent $500 on a transaction, a week or so later my coworker would process a return as if that customer came in and asked for everything to be refunded to a prepaid card that was not used in the original transaction.

This person got caught partially because she was not just doing returns the way my coworker did, she was also increasing the prices of the items being returned, which is so incredibly blatantly fraudulent and traceable.

The reason is that you won't fix institutional racism by making an example of one older woman who probably is representative of the majority rather than the minority. Add an apology, a little training, a fat payout and an option for the racist company to brush it under the rug and you've got yourself a settlement.

The article clearly states the 1 million dollar charge is what got her busted. Considering she went into super felony territory I wonder what her long term game plan was? College and a normal life was over. IRS would eventually question how someone with a 20k income bought a Tesla. Should've bought a house in another country and left.
