Im going to be honest here and say America. Ironically I am an immigrant who came here as a kid, but I do feel more American than even my original ethnicity. But it also depends where Im at, and in the US i feel less American in a way. Obviously traveling the US I will identify with NJ more, but if youve been to other parts of the world, youll see how homogenous the US really is. Its pretty much all suburbs everywhere whether its NJ, Florida, or Arizona, it feels VERY similar (compared to other countries obviously). But I will admit when I do travel I always only tell people I am from NYC/NJ (code word for "I work in city but live in NJ") so theres that.

We moved here kind of randomly before we were married because we found an apartment that checked all our boxes. And ended up staying and deciding to raise our family here. I was coming from DC, so it was a bit of an adjustment for me. But I love it here.

It's great for families, but it's ok for young people too. Before we had kids and our lives ended forever we'd go to cheesequake a lot. or Holmdel park. There's easy access to the Henry Hudson trail. There's lake lefferts if you're into fishing or kayaking. In the summer, you're about 20 mins from sandy hook, 20-25 mins from Asbury or long Branch for beaches. There's a surprising amount of good pizza here. It's nice to have both stop n shop and shop rite without having to go to the busier areas of rt 35 or rt 9. There's a livotis here too. We also have the train to the city, or to red bank. It's diverse. And Shanghai bun has the best soup dumps in the biz!

The downtown area is improving at a slower rate than we had hoped but it's getting better. Maloney's is great, but expensive. Alternate ending is a fun little brewery with pizza by Talulas (in Asbury). There's also A Salute on main st that looks to have a nice outdoor bar. But I've only ever eaten inside.

If you're looking to go out drinking in red bank and Asbury, Ubers home aren't cheap. Keyport is close. PNC arts center in Holmdel is close.

Jersey for sure. I’m a proud American and if America was attacked I would defend it. But jersey is my loyalty. I don’t have any control over the rest of the country, but a single person can have an impact at the local level.

You can call your senator a thousand times about healthcare or the tax code or whatever and never get a call back. But if you are persistent enough on a local level, a single determined individual can get a new stop sign put in, or can improve trash pickup or whatever tf it is.
