I would love to know what's involved in cleaning up superfund sites. Is it actually cleaned, or is the whole thing sealed in an impermeable membrane and paved over?

Apartments, solar field for a community solar project, and "green seam" walking paths. Kind of hits all the needs of a community, totally making use of an otherwise unusable site.

NJ doesn’t have anywhere near the number of transients that Florida has, so the culture here is one of assimilation. Florida people expect everyone they talk with to be just like them. Many lose brain cells when that doesn’t happen.
The northeast is what I call “educated liberalism”, with positions on issues based on careful consideration and analysis. Florida position statements tend to be based on how the policy may directly affect the individual with the opinion. For example, northeastern residents (mostly) understand that immigrants are a vital part of the economy and while often exploited, they weigh the pros (keep service wages low and cost of doing business down) while providing a pathway to a better life for many coming from unstable countries. It benefits all participants in the economy, even if it’s a source of exploitation. Florida residents seem to be either - opposed to immigrants who steal jobs (and unable to substantiate these claims, as overwhelmingly they appear to be doing landscaping or back of the house food service) - or smugly silent, enjoying their inexpensive lawn services and cheap catering.
Finally, on education - the northeast embraces public education and values it as a public good. Florida sees public education as a drain on tax dollars with little return. But let’s be honest, with transplant populations flooding the state every year, why educate locals? Educated individuals are showing up daily, and have a work ethic usually rooted in puritanical values. I saw none of that in South Florida.
Drug use and abuse were on open display, as was excessive drinking in South Florida. I enjoy a drink every now and then, I don’t need several every day to function.

If we want to get really technical, Amazon’s are distribution centers, not warehouses or factories. Warehouses store items that are made from factories. Distribution centers receive goods from warehouses and distribute them out for routes and do not typically store items. In and out. Still cool to look at but don’t think Amazon is conducting any tours to the public. Source: work logistics and supply chain and worked at Amazon sort center

This was going to be my suggestion. Dark City and Kane breweries are really cool to look at.

My identity comes from specifically being raised an NYC suburbanite. As I have lived and traveled all over the country I have come to realize that the lines are drawn much more between city, suburbs and country than state borders. There are some cities that have cultivated a more conservative vibe and some country towns populated by hippies, but generally that’s what I’ve found.

I’m two days late to this post but if you open a map of the USA currently. There’s ice storms in Texas all the way to West Virginia. It’s likely to make its way up here this week.

Stay over in Montclair, NJ. It’s safe, 20 minutes away by Uber/Lyft that time of night and there are good brunch places on church street for the following morn. “The George” is nice.
If you are set on doing an hour drive, check out “The asbury” in asbury park.

When I lived in Montclair, I was constantly peeling Patriot Front slaptags off the backs of street signs. Essex County has a Nazi problem.

There’s a soccer pitch in Orange NJ that used to be the site of a radium factory. I’d never let my kids play there.

So I did some math: 65k would be roughly 54k after tax (per smartasset.com calculator for married filing jointly), which is about 4500 monthly. Rent (for an ok place in safe neighborhood) - 1600 (ex: https://newjersey.craigslist.org/apa/d/lodi-bedroom-for-rent/7579087792.html) Utilities (electric + internet, heat/water is included in rent) - 100 Car payment + insurance - 500 Groceries (incl household items) - 800 Health insurance - varies but I played with getcovered.nj.gov and the cheapest plan was $51/mo for 2 with 65k income. Let’s call it $100 for a slightly better plan. Gas - 100 Phone plan - 100
So bare bones expenses would be 3300, leaving 1200 for others (clothing, eating out, shopping, subscriptions, personal care, etc.) which I think is doable, especially if it’s only temporary until your husband finds a job.
This is assuming no debt and no expensive medical care. Could cut back more if you can find a cheaper place (maybe central/south jersey), use mint mobile (cheaper phone plan), buy used car (historically cheaper than new cars but idk about the second hand market now), or really budget on making grocery money last with no eating out.

I have noticed we usually just have 30 to 40 degree weather in the winter with one exceptionally cold week. Then back to spring. My relatives in the Carolinas get more snow than us!

I identify with more with Jersey, especially since I’m away from it right now at college. People are confused and weirded out by how much love, pride, and respect I have for New Jersey. They’re also weirded out by how much I do identify with the state.
