East Rock between Whitney/Edwards/State/East Rock Park, and Westville between Fountain/Yale/Forest/Chapel, are the two best areas by far.

East Rock between Orange/State and Lawrence/Willow is a big destination for a lot of families. The people who live there do a good job of decorating their porches and handing out candy.

This is literally what happens on Halloween in every city in America for at least the last 30 years (aka my entire life), and probably longer….

Go to Black Diamond in West Hartford or one of the other APP certified shops in the state.

So, people don’t stay in their neighborhoods any more and goto better areas? Wow!

So it should be trashed by a bunch of drunk morons? This is the attitude that makes cities and neighborhoods deteriorate and cause people to stop coming down here. It’s not acceptable at all.

Wasn’t it shutdown a while ago? Also screw paying $20 admission fee to just go in somewhere I am going to spend more money. Vendors should cover those costs.

Is Westville a hot spot? I’ll be handing out candy near the CVS on Whalley

Morris cove by the sea wall. Parade starts at 530.

I manage a rental and did it on Craigslist. A kind woman from Tennessee video-called the apartment tour and moved all the way here. It worked out.
Which is to say, try to get in touch with the posters and exercise good judgment, whether or not you're using Craigslist.
But yes it's expensive. Try Fairhaven Heights (east of Quinnipiac River), West Haven, or upper Whalley, going towards Westville and Woodbridge. Fairhaven in general is also fine in most spots, but loud and there are kids who try car doors and steal bikes.

You're moving in. There are specific "cons" you will want to know about. Here's my take:
-
Tweed air traffic is very loud and low-flying. Few times a day.
-
Prowlers. Kids that walk around, try your car door, and check to see if bicycles are unlocked. Install a motion activated light.
-
Loud cars. It's part of the vibe.
-
Places you should be cautious of. AKA welcome to human society.
I've lived on Downing St for six years and I bike to work downtown, shop at C-town, and I love it.

New haven proper or county ? East rock would probably be a great area! Lots of families there and seems like a spot that is good for trick or treating!

That's My Post Office.
Sorry, I don't like to waste gas just so I can luxuriously zip over to Brewery Street.

This doesn’t deserve downvotes IMO.
I’m around your age and we always had to go elsewhere bc we lived on a dark country road
