More of the local bars were open earlier prior to the COVID lockdown. When things re-opened it didn't make sense to open early because so many people were still staying home. Things seem to have mostly picked back up but I'm guessing a lot of places haven't really re-examined the hours they open, or they are still playing it safe to save every penny and mainly be open when they are more likely to be busier.

Downtown new haven is filled with dangerous mentally ill drug addicts, anyone who says otherwise is willfully ignorant and likely a transplant

It happens. It's a very populated city. It gets tense around three green. Not really the best place to hang out alone unless you have a reason to or are passing through/catching a bus .
