My family are Rangers fans but judging by the gear sold in stores, there are only Bruins fans around here. I haven't seen a Rangers shirt for sale in a Kohls, Dicks, Modells, any of them. There's Jets and Giants shirts but for hockey, it's only Bruins.

AHL wise Bridgeport is great to take your family to a game. Hartford is a lot more fun in my opinion, better atmosphere and 2 dollar beers and dollar dogs on Fridays.

My family are penguins fans. No idea how it started no one from Pittsburgh in the family. I think my little brother got into them and we all just said “sure” and now years later it’s become a thing lol

Grew up supporting the Hartford Whalers (left in 1997 to become the Hurricanes).

Traditionally Connecticut has been split between Boston and NYC teams. People in New Haven tend to support NYC. I grew up in northern CT and my family supported all the Boston teams.

Definitely check out some of the college games. Yale and Quinnipiac are usually pretty good, and Ingalls Rink is a neat place to catch a game (it’s known as “The Whale” due to its architecture). Other good college teams in the region as well. The minor league teams (Hartford Wolfpack, Bridgeport Islanders) are fun to watch, too.

Eta: it’s really easy to take the train into NYC and see a game at Madison Square Garden.

New Haveners 40s and older often have an extra NY Rangers affinity from years of having the New Haven Nighthawks, their AHL farm team (the arena is gone).

The Islanders AHL team plays in Bridgeport and the Rangers AHL team plays in Hartford, if you would go to watch either of those, then that’s the team I’d pick.

I’m a Hurricanes fan because they were the Whalers
