Not sure of any used there, but if a book lover then make sure you know about the new Possible Futures bookstore on Edgewood Ave, walkable/near downtown.

Book Trader screwed me over - I dropped off a several boxes of fairly recent literature type fiction (my wife had just finished her MFA) that they assured me they would go through and get back to me when they weren't so busy. They blew us off for the first few phone calls (spread out over about 6 weeks), and when I remembered three months later and called them they told me they had rejected and donated most of the books (without calling me as they assured me they would), but I had $20 of store credit for a couple of the books they stole. I never went in to collect it, but if you go there and tell the manager/buyer that they are an ass you are welcome to it with my blessing.

I've done a number of studies with Yale. Each different study has qualifiers depending on the research. Some are very specific that you must have a particular condition. Others are looking for healthy volunteers to use as baseline. You can check the Yale website as the above commenter said. You can also check new haven craigslist. Search for "research" or "study" or look under volunteers or gigs.

I'm assuming you're talking about clinical trials- there is a website to search through all of them! Just Google clinical trials at Yale healthy volunteers (or a specific condition you are looking for) and you'll get to a website where you can filter and search through them, then email the contact listed. You won't qualify for some of them or they will be closed to new volunteers, but tell them you are interested in future studies and they will reach out when a new one pops up! Also check telephone poles and bus stops for flyers. Pfizer also does overnight studies that pay out a lot more.

Both of these neighborhoods proper have crime rates that are way, way below the statewide average. And consider that CT on average is one of the 3 or 4 safest states in the US.

Most of the crime in nearby areas would be in areas with low income housing (like, in adjacent neighborhoods - for example if you are biking from Spring Glen to downtown New Haven you go through Newhallville on the canal trail a few blocks away, and that is probably the most disadvantaged neighborhood in the area) or in the big commercial areas (which just have crime incidents because of the overall amount of activity). For example many people have been carjacked in the Stop and Shop and other large shopping plazas next to Spring Glen. The neighborhood itself is very safe though, and given the number of people shopping in those areas, statistically your risk of being a victim is very small.
