Sorry you're hard up at the moment, OP. I lived in my car for a year, so I know your pain.

My recommendation is the 76 truck stop in Wallingford, if it's not too far. It's a safe place to park overnight, and has cheap showers that you can use for like, $1.

Also check into calling 211. I don't know what the resources are like in New Haven right now, but when I was homeless they were able to get me food and a temporary place to stay a few years ago.

Good luck. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I found a small landlord who is just a random guy who owns a house and it was the best decision I’ve made regarding housing in New Haven. You can find a lot of these people on FB marketplace, but please be wary of people who look like small landlords but are terrible management companies.

OH. And when we moved in on august 1 of 2020, most of the previous tenant’s things were still there. I’m talking mattresses, desks, chairs, kitchen table and chair set. We reached out and they never answered so we had to move it all out ourselves. Then they eventually answered and said they’d have someone clear the junk away. They took a few things and then the rest sat rotting in the backyard for 2 more years. I have so many more stories. This post just unleashed years worth of rage lol do not do it!!

Topliff is GARBAGE. We had soo many problems with them during our two years there. From a window breaking (not due to us, it was open in the summer and then just fell and smashed) in November and not being fixed until mid January to the literal wasps that were in our wall that they did shit about (we had to pay for an exterminator because they had the handyman (who was awesome) use a foam that trapped them in the wall causing dead wasps to rain from the walls and ceilings)… I would NEVER. There were so many other issues. Our upstairs neighbors had a squirrel literally bust through their wall and their solution was to install a metal square over the wall. This was 34 Trumbull St. Loved that apartment but Dave and all the other topliff guys can fuck themselves.

I will pick some up Tomrrow morning at that route 80 Walmart. I pass by on my way to work around 8am, so look for a DM from me around 8:20am.

To be blunt I’d rather you didn’t see my car or anything. I’ll walk over to where you are parked.

I’m not trying to sound like a prick. When I was homeless I was not a good person.

I hope this all improves quickly.

If you need a warm clothing or boots let me know. I know how hard these winters are. From previously mentioned experience.

I’m not willing to give cash for myriad reasons, but if you need clothing or something I can buy and drop off for you, do let me know.

Hey bub I don’t know your skill set but if you’re interested I can 99 percent likely get you some kind of restaurant job. As far as the parking thing, try westville by hard street. It’s a good neighborhood but not too uppity so people prolly won’t be up your ass.

I would for sure avoid the city proper. Maybe over at the big Walmart on route 80?

Or what about the big high way gas stations?

I loved out of my car for 9 months in new haven back in 2009. OP’s harassed me relentlessly. I was young and dumb and never thought to leave the downtown areas. If I were to be forced into that life again I would try Walmarts and highway rest stops i think…
