All of the other towns are pretty "meh" though if you're looking to live in a walkable urban environment. Personally I'd rather find a roommate than have to live out in Branford or Meriden or something.

If you're willing to spend 1300 for a studio, look at other towns unless transportation is a big issue. You'll get better options.

Work with a realtor. Costs you nothing. Melanie Gunn at Seabury Hill was wonderful in helping me find a rental a few years ago and I was so impressed I’m working with her on buying my first house. Also check out their website they have listings.
