Unsolicited nostalgia: the abundance of pickup soccer games in New Haven was a top 5 favorite thing about living there once upon a when. We were playing 6 days a week when this was cranking the most. Then, the games were primarily on Yale's property off 34 and next to the field hockey stadium.
Even in the heart of the winter, on Saturdays and Sundays people would show for the normal 10a game with shovels. We would routinely make a heinous drive across town, shovel a small field, and play ~ 3 v 3.
Wonderful people from all over the world.

I don't play, so take this with a grain of salt, but I see groups playing on east rock park's rice field, usually on afternoons and weekends. You might need to scope it out yourself to see what the deal is, though.

I always see a group out playing in East Rock Park on the weekend. Seems to be mostly middle aged men if that’s relevant.

People who own homes (city council persons, mayors, community organizers) love making up policies that pretend to help poor renters, but in reality make the problem a lot worse

I’ve been wondering if the weekend pickup soccer still regularly happens on Ella Grasso Blvd field? Anyone?

Definitely a good bar scene / music scene around here as well. Musical Intervention hosts weekly sober space open mic nights on Thursdays at 6:00PM. As for bars, Stella Blues does open mic as well. Cafe 9 / The State House / Gather East and a lot of other venues are in the area as well. If you're closer to Hamden then there is The Space Ballroom / The Cellar.

Nonprofit/for profit mix has become common, otherwise nonprofits find it difficult to survive or manage to accomplish much.

Jim is great! He works with one of my go-to's at Guaranteed Rate. Super knowledgeable and has been doing it for a long time.

People who don’t live in these communities love telling people who do what’s best for them

Went to a ska show there randomly a couple weeks ago. I hope they can find a new spot in the area, the vibe works really well for the city.

I'd check with your insurance - sometimes they have preferred places for you to go. We used the glass coverage with Geico and they told us a shop to use.
