Thanks for bringing this up. I used to go to Miyas all the time, lots of the rolls were hit and miss. I was obsessed with the vegetarian squid roll in my. Vegetarian days. Some of the potato wrapped creamy dill rolls were a bit heavy for me. Still, Bun seemed like a really talented chef and an interesting, friendly guy. I spent a few nights after hours drinking fireball sake with him. But wage theft is absolutely unforgivable. We should stand in solidarity with workers and recognize that so many of these small local businesses we often fetishize are some of the worst perpetrators of wage theft. employee abuse, harassment, and mismanagement.

Miya's was also involved in a labor dispute recently because they didn't pay some of their employees full wages. There have been at least two protests outside of their location on Howe where former employees calling for Bun to pay his workers... disappointing.

They've been closed for a while now. The chef/owner for some time did things like fishing and private dinners for people but idk if he still does it now. I do still miss it my favorites were the pumpkin miso soup and sake bombs. I was lucky to live in the building behind them and always had great sushi

What kind of music? College street and state house both have great shows. If you happen to like noise music, lmk. I know a bunch of people who have small intimate noise shows, and that scene attracts a lot of introverted but fun and extremely welcoming people. Also very queer positive. Never ending books always have art and noise shows!

Seconding Cafe 9 as well, great punk/DIY scene there.

College Street Music Hall has AWESOME shows. Idk what kind of music you’re into, but I’ve seen Bright Eyes, Perfume Genius, Sean Paul (randomly), Modest Mouse, Beach House and a ton others there. It’s easy to talk to people outside during intermission since everyone just kinda hangs out and smokes and talks before going back in. Cafe 9 has a ton of cool shows, too.

Also, Partners is a gay bar/club on Crown St. that I like a lot. I’ve met a bunch of cool people there.
