Hard pass. The guy is speedrunning that annoying thing when creatives become too acutely self aware of why people liked them, and promptly overdoing and ruining all of it.

I honestly mostly agree with you there I just think he really gets the most out of his actors, especially Collette

Reply to What are some of your favourite comedy films from the 1990’s - Early 2010’s by Jeremyfurfaro
Too many to name, but Bad Boys, Meet the Parents, Happy Gilmore, 40 year old virgin, Cable Guy, Something about mary, etc. Pretty much every Judd Apatow movie on the 2000s is in there as well. I'm also a gigantic Todd Phillips fan. Even his lesser work like School of Scoundrels is wildly funny to me. Road Trip, Old School, Starsky and Hutch, The Hangover, etc are classics that I can watch non stop.

As someone who has only seen John wick 1 and loved it, it is very sad to read this. The first movie had it's "anime" moments but it seemed like an overall quite realistic and grounded film all things considered.

Me too. I saw it at the cinema when it first came out and have watched it at least once every couple of years since. A masterpiece.

Heat has aged so well. It’s my favorite movie ever.

I've started vinland saga's anime, is it worth it or is the manga way better?

Idk I may be missing the hype with Aster, but his movies to me are just painfully pretentious bores. I think Hereditary is probably the strongest movie he's made so far, but Midsommar is genuinely a pointless bore.

The Dark Knight falls into the one of the best cinematic movies ever made category.
Also lots of superhero movies fall into the really good category e.g. The Watchmen, Joker..

First two that come to mind are Mass and Manchester by the Sea. Both very recent films.

Saw Hereditary in theater several times. One of the most unsettling films of all time.

That’s what I’m saying, man — if you think that’s what all comedies are, then you haven’t seen very many, not to mention good ones. And there’s nothing wrong with improvisational skills. To me, that’s actually more impressive in a way than copious amounts of CGI.
But, beyond that — you still don’t seem to understand what “lowest form of cinema” is. It means dumb, awful, worthless trash.

Much more of a Robert Eggers guy myself when it comes to the whole quality of a film
