Yeah, i grew up with it and it's one of the first of it's kind of depicting the" future as being old". It's very influential with it's art direction, sets and style.

But, it's cult movie for a reason. More sizzle than steak.

I love it, because I'm of it's time, but I get people not loving it now.

The sequel is really good, and it updates the stylization very well.

I'll be the nerd that digs in on fighting style.

John Wick is a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, which is a lot of grappling, positioning, and ground fighting.

Jason Bourne primarily uses a mix of Kali and Jeet Kune Do. Defensive postures and swift counterattack.

Ethan Hunt started out mostly with capoeira (flashy, acrobatic fighting) and shifted to Keysi Fighting Method (defensive postures and elbow or hammerfist responses) in later films.

All of this is dubious, because of the magic of filmmaking and how every fighter says their style is the best, but I'd say:

Hunt and Bourne would square off well in the opening round, but Bourne would win out.

If Bourne can keep his feet, he'd beat Wick, but if Wick can get him on the ground, shit's gonna go bad for Bourne.

Hunt versus Wick would be a mess, but Wick would roll it up in the end.

Three-way fight would go better for Hunt, since Keysi is designed with multiple opponents in mind and it multiple opponents plays more to Hunt's trickster tendencies, but Bourne is still going to win out just based on the level of violence in the methods.

If it was a deathmatch, John Wick, easily. Especially if "whatever else is readily available in the room" can be used as a weapon. His combat versatility is on another level. He killed a dude with a fucking book ffs.

Between Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt, I'd give it to Bourne. Ethan Hunt isn't really that great at hand to hand combat. His victories have largely come down to having an assist and/or being in the right place at the right time. He's otherwise fairly easily outmatched in direct combat. If this were a car chase battle though, he'd probably be in very close contention with John Wick, if not the winner.

I don't remember Wick being all that proficient with hand to hand combat. Didn't he struggled against an old man at the end of the first movie?

Now, he can kill you with a book or a fucking pencil, but with a right hook? I don't know.

Hunt is fearless and wont hesitate to go after people bigger than him, but he's had some chance luck to win a lot of his fights.

Bourne and Wick are closest in their hand to hand combat skill level and resourcefulness. Bourne used a book and Wick used a peyncil. I think Bourne would need some kind of luck tho, Wick is just absolutely cold, and his main goal is to kill, not just defend himself. Bourne sometimes is still trying to win a fight but maybe gain some information like Hunt, so he doesnt have that same drive Wick does.

Wick can take some pretty good damage too.

If I know anything about protagonist matchups they would fight for long enough that each of them could have a moment where they could seem to have the advantage, then they would realize they’re all good guys and team up against bad guys without ever actually deciding who was best so that no fan bases are offended.

Purely hand to hand? probably Bourne.

With weapons (and everything that is not part of the human body counts as a weapon)? probably Wick.

By deceiving everyone with a scooby doo mask? probably Hunt.
