I think if we're really honest with ourselves a lot of our lives lie on the foundations of suffering and cruelty that severely surpass the disgusting behaviour that Kevin Spacey has been exposed of. We're all benefiting from the use of copper and cobalt for example. Look at where these come from and how they're produced. I can see the argument for not watching films he features in though. I'd be iffy about watching one of his new films but I don't think you're advancing his career by watching the likes of American Beauty or Reservoir Dogs.

I've still never seen this movie. The trailer definitely was the reason I didn't go see it when it came out. It just looked "meh". And I feel like it came out during a time when Hollywood was pushing out all these bland Sci-fi, action movies.

power abhors a vacuum, but profit doubly so.

There won't be a "Gap" in movies. There won't magically be money for 1,000 indy flicks, etc. Instead the next great mind-numb film that appeals to the masses and can print money will come out.

  • The industry isn't about film, it's about profits. The films and "Hollywood accounting" are just the means to that end.

  • This is not to say there are not individuals and studios who prioritize film for film over film for profit, only to say that the industry as a whole is focused on profits.

>but to have an actual discussion about what would happen if that "monopoly" was gone.

The monopoly is the point. It's the end goal for the people making decisions. If this one was gone they would be on the hunt for the next one. Period.

I watched this last night, never seen a more pretentious film. And I'm sad about it too cause it had some really interesting parts within the film that could have been focused on as the main part of the movie and been way more interesting.

Like if it was an entire film about a conductor's reputation being ruined by people online, that would've been way more interesting. But it wasn't, that was only select parts of the movie and the end.

Or maybe it could've honed in on those really creepy and tense moments, since they were fun to watch, unlike the rest of this movie.

I was confused and struggled to care. Maybe I would've liked it more if it was shorter. It tested my patience the entire time.

I can see parts of which that people liked about this movie, but in the end, it's pretentious. It thinks it's a masterpiece and I believe it lacks care for the audience.

Doesn't deserve 6 oscar nominations.

People will shit on Ridley Scott a lot these days but he has made a long list of great films.

The Duellists, Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, American Gangster, The Martian, and The Last Duel.

Hannibal, Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, and Black Rain are all decent too.

Oldman as Verger was worth the film. The book wasn’t very good and the movie never really had a chance. I still love it. The end is horrible (it is in the book too) it’s “gross” where previous work was more subtle. If it had existed…Hannibal, a Blumhouse production 🤔🤣

The Menu. I know it's a new film, but I've already seen it twice and that feels like enough for now. The film specifically makes a point on how doing something over and over again ruins the point, and so watching it again in recently would feel like I'm going against the movie.
