>As for non-binary actors, why not just nominate them in the category that’s best fitting for the character they’re portraying?

that just delays the problems for the next generations to deal with when more roles feature characters who don't clearly fit in the box of 1 gender.

>I don’t see why we should change nearly a hundred years of an awards category just for rare fringe circumstances.

Because the cases will become less rare over time. Might be better to reform the system beforehand until waiting for the problem to spill over. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

That’s what I always suggest when I hear women saying they want to be called “actors” instead of “actresses”…but god forbid men to win for a couple of years in a row, right? That would be sexist…come on! These exaggerations just end up drawing attention away from what really counts. That goes for gender, race, sexual preference, etc. All fanatics are idiots. Including far-right…and far-“woke”.

It's not that it lacked quality, but that it felt as if the entire film could've been named something different, a few names changed and be it's own IP. Instead, Del Toro used the Pinocchio name and concept as a crutch, where he's shown in the past he has the talent to take old tales and completely make them his own e.g. The Shape of Water. If it had been named something different with his own characters, this could've been something truly fantastic and could've been the jumpstart to a whole franchise. But instead it was named and based upon a classic character and story which if one is wanting to see such a tale, there are honestly better versions of said tale to watch

I was cast as an extra for this movie. It was my first ever experience and it didn't go well haha. I bumped into the boom guy at one point... Anyway, hope the movie's good.

Many old fans of the comics like me would breathe a sigh of relief. When the first (Sam Raimee) Spiderman films came out I was so happy to see a part of my childhood faithfully brought to life on screen. Ditto the first Iron Man and Captain America. It was all going so well. I've come to hate the Marvel Franchise over time. I think it needs a long break followed by a re-imagining from a new team with a fresh take.

As far as stupid reboots no one asked for goes, it is top tier. It knows exactly what it is- an absolutely ridiculous film where you can tell everyone working on it had a goddamn blast. It's a comedy that makes fun of the source material and the very idea of doing an A-Team reboot without being overtly meta. They fly a tank in it, and for that alone it's gold.

Movies have always been able to coexist. Superhero movies aren’t the first genre of movies to rule over everything else. There’s always a new king. A new genre would just take its place. People act as if superhero movies are a plague even tho this cycle has been going on for decades. Something new will just take the crown. Nothing else will change. Except for some theatres losing a lot of business.

how nitpicky are you about the definition of superhero? Would Samus Aran count as a super hero if she was featured in a movie where her super suit could do cool things like drop bombs, fire lazers and shrink to a ball? Does Mario count as a super hero if he is going to do cool things like jump high and shoot fireballs?

It's impossible for to imagine a market devoid of character who use some type of cool power to do action. Within that framework, I guess it just depends what you mean by superhero. If all supernatural/sci-fi powers were banned, then Hollywood would just move one tier down to have more characters like James Bond, Ethan Hunt or John Wick who just perform unrealistic stunts that are presented as being within the laws of physics.

The Birdcage is a brilliant film and Lane and Williams were great together. I wish they had done more films as a team. They could have been an updated version of Lemmon and Matthau.

One of my favorite exchanges is when they talk about the "ball game". Lane expresses his feelings and asks if that's the right response and Williams goes "I'm not sure."

Less and less people care about the Oscars, because they stopped focusing on quality and their rewards are based around other things like representation and virtue signaling, instead of great movies. Instead of getting back to giving awards purely based on quality, they're moving to include markets that are traditionally not represented at the Oscars to draw in a new audience.

Don't get me wrong, if I were them I'd probably do the same as it's easier and makes sense business-wise, but I don't think we'll see much uptick in viewership from US/European markets.

The books are a trilogy so it was to be expected. The two mains from the first movie are not the main characters in the second and third books. The second should focus on Gemma Chan's and Harry Shum Jr. characters while the third is much more and ensemble.
