Exactly. when you open, you want to open all the theaters, so there's a rush. Then most movies are close to the same run length - maybe a 90 minute kid's movie or a big 3 hour blockbuster, but most are around 105m-120m. So there will be ~30 minute span where the movies are getting out and the crews are cleaning, then the next block starts ~10 minutes after that. So another rush. The manager is trying to keep each theater playing as many times as they can during operating hours.
The main reason to break from this model is when you have a long movie playing in multiple theaters. Like when Interstellar came out and the 15 theater plex I worked at had 4 theaters playing it including the IMAX so you could get a start time every 30 minutes or so.
Edit: more accurate runtimes

We quote The Princess Bride a lot too.
We also love lines from The Emperor’s New Groove, Shrek, Mulan, Clue, You’ve Got Mail, Groundhog’s Day, and Star Wars and it’s rare that we don’t say at least one line from a Monty Python sketch or movie on any given day.

Ah true, I missed the Operator Condor mention in my eagerness to comment 🤣 The dumbest naming convention ever, but I guess they didn't want to launch a sequel in the US after Jackie had just had his breakthrough. I love the fight with the amazon women 😂 And the main monk is so over the top!
Many years ago I actually did a Top 10 on YouTube that got way more attention than it deserved 😂 But it had Armour of God as number one. I even enjoyed The Protector and City Hunter back then 😂 https://youtu.be/SU-wW19uJ7I

Twister. Or godfather part II specifically the part from Fredo where he says "I can handle things! I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect!"

There is no problem. You can enjoy goofy dumb movies as well as high quality “well made” cinema as well.
What does that even mean exactly? Not every meal needs to be filet mignon. Just because a movie isn’t high brow doesn’t mean it should be looked down upon. The purpose of film is to entertain. If it can do that and elevate you in some way or challenge your way of thinking or spark a deep discussion about the human condition, then great!
But suggesting someone enjoying cocaine bear is someone with no taste is, in itself, in poor taste.

Well... don't get mad at the people who made The Forbidden Kingdom, get mad at the Hong Kong film industry executives who had a good 10 - 15 year period prior to 2008 where they could have put Jet Li and Jackie Chan into a film together, but no one actually bothered to capitalise on the opportunity

From my time working at a theater:
>showtimes scrunched together?
The theaters usually run in blocks with staggered times. So the theater would open around 10-11am, with shows starting every 10 minutes or so. That way they arent all getting out at the same time and the cleaning crew can hit each theater as it empties. Allow a few minutes in between for the new viewers to get settled, and then a new block starts.
>blockbuster movies release in november, december, march, april, and most of summer
There are various "seasons" to releases. Big tentpoles are usually in summer because school is out and allow for more viewers. Christmas and Thanksgiving time are also big release times, and usually have the largest crowds - more than summer. End of fall for horror. Jan-Mar is usually the time for the movies with lower expectations. And so on.
>senior citizens come to movies in flocks more than younger people not to mention they go to the movies on the slow days but younger people don’t as much?
Retired people have more free time and can choose times with cheaper tickets and smaller audiences.
>Why do some movies that people expect from to do bad become successful while some movies expect people to be a big hit flop?
You figure that out and you could make a career in Hollywood.

I think super troopers 2 suffers from what a lot of comedy sequels suffer from. Coming 2 America, anchorman 2, etc. They aren't played earnestly and aren't grounded. They lean into the jokes instead of letting the situation be the joke.
