I think that in pre-Hollywood Jackie had many of his best single moments because of his insane physicality, but he for sure didn't have his best overall movies. I have watched most of his movies with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, and thought they were too silly, and took away from Jackie's stunts to leave room for the less interesting guys. I have watched most of his historical movies, and just don't care much about all that, I want insane stunts. In some of his first solo movies he used to have awesome training montages, like in "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow", "Drunken Master" and "The Young Master. But much of those movies were just Jackie goofing around acting overly silly on bad fake-looking sets. The early stuff isn't always automatically the best.

I’m not sure about the “violent crazy concepts” part of it, but I think it’ll definitely help change the state of movies. Don’t get me wrong, I love Marvel, but I’m just so very tired. I think fatigue is setting in for everybody. The last few films getting less than stellar responses is a sign of the times.

People want to just go see a fun movie. Both Violent Night and Cocaine Bear are films that are just good, fun movies. I don’t think the violence bit is what’s drawing people in. Maybe the unexpected nature of the violence. “Lol Santa killing people. Lol the bear did cocaine. Lol the killer robot is a little girl.”

If it’s entertaining, people will go see it. Hopefully these films show studios that. We want entertainment, not a shallow story with Spider-Man doing flips in front of a green screen.

(Note: absolutely nothing wrong with Spider-Man. But a lot of the recent MCU films/shows feel like there’s no heart. Like they’re just cash grabs.)

It was the end of his Hong Kong era, and the beginning of his Hollywood era. I love a bunch of his Hollywood movies:

Rush Hour 1 + 2
Shanghai Noon + Knights
Mr Nice Guy
Who Am I?
Rumble in the Bronx.

But before he also nailed it
The Legend of Drunken Master
SuperCop
Twin Dragons
Armour of God 1 + 2
Police Story 1 + 2

I wasn't the biggest fan of his earliest stuff with the trio and Project A, but I did love "Wheels on Meals".

The Super Mario Bros. has to be the biggest/worst film adaptation of any IP. A complete misfire that alienated audiences and insulted beloved fans of the Nintendo game and its titular characters. It had body horror moments in a movie that PG, and the best description I've read for Dennis Hopper's King Koopa is that "he looks like a pit boss at Biff Tannen's Pleasure Paradise".

But I'll be damned if I don't find it interesting. It's just something about the punky/neo-apacalypse look of "Dinohattan". I admit I like the some design choices, like it's grid-powered electric cars, jet boots, punk rock NY vibe. A part of me wonders how well the movie would have fared if they stripped anything away that could be pertained to being a part of the Super Mario IP and just made it its own movie

>Danny getting shot in the end is portrayed as if it's Derek's fault for getting him involved in White Supremacy, which would make sense. However, in the beginning of the film, all Danny does is walk into the bathroom, confront the kids that were bullying the snitch, and tell the snitch that he needs to stand up for himself.

  1. It's the same guy that was bullying the snitch that is the one who shoots Danny.

  2. I think it makes sense that Derek blames himself a bit, that's plausible, even if how much of it is his fault is arguable.

The tragedy is that Danny moves past his hate and resolves to put it aside only to fall victim to a consequence of an earlier interaction.
