I loved that show. (It was cool to see that Kurt Russell's son had so much talent.)

I want to remake Kubrick’s “The Shining” with John Lithgow as Jack Torrance. Nicholson’s performance is legendary, but he seems malicious from the get-go. Lithgow I think would have a more clear descent from a decent man with a troubled past to giving into his most psychotic urges.

I’m not sure how bad breath would be visualized… but yes bad in bed would be more refreshing, possibly adding to the dramatic tension that having sex with the person you’re escaping aliens with already presents.

Because they’ve developed that formula as what’s widely popular over decades it didn’t just come out of thin air

Blond gritty human James Bond. I think they may have borrowed some of this spirit from Layered Cake.
Story was wild too. None of the running over the crocodiles crap.

No lie... I really enjoyed reading that even if you aren't being serious about it.
It reminds me of how teachers insist upon finding meaning and allegory and metaphor in literally every novel we ever read in school.

I’d argue people eat what they’re served. I see tv shows that have significant cultural impact that pushes this envelope. Why not movies?

Reply to Movies or documentaries that successfully capture a real-life city and what it's like by AChocolateHouse
Other than the caricatures of cultural stereotypes, High Maintenance is the most accurate of the TV shows I've watched that take place in NYC. The main character bikes around and enjoy all parts of the city and has random interactions with all kinds of people.
The part that is most accurate in the show is showing how people use public space eg parks and plazas etc. That aspect is missing so much from TV and movies because enjoying public space all the time is impossible if you live a car dependent life ie what most people know as living.

The film that finally got the book character right: a willful, besotted brute with a patriotic, if hobbled, heart.
And one of the greatest -- if not the greatest -- chase scenes ever filmed.
Parkour on a hi-rise crane. Epic.
We hadn't yet seen anything in the Bond series like the raw violence of the opening pre-credits scene, which told us in no uncertain terms what we could expect from the new Bond, and how he would go about solving problems. No more improbable gizmos saving the day; no more baseless, magical power over women; just raw masculine power and the willingness to get down in the dirt.
This is also the Bond film that perfectly defines love: after fighting two assassins down a stairwell, getting slashed by a machete, being poisoned, actually dying, and being defibrillated back to life, the first thing Bond says to Vesper as he regains consciousness is "Are you okay?"
That's profound. No posing, no manipulating, certainly no self-worry -- just immediate, sincere, selfless concern for Vesper. She can't compute it. I love that scene.
>You left that theater with goosebumps and a feeling of so much swag.
Totally. Saw it with a friend, and we were so stoked coming out of the theater.

Fascinating. Sounds like you have some really interesting background with your research. I’d love if you can share it. It does fascinate me. And thank you for providing the data points around this topic. Helps to bring realism to the discussion.

Except it widely is that’s why that’s what gets made and is what’s popular sure there’s other types of film but it’s incredibly niche and not really widely liked

Normally I would point out things like framing the shot or design, but I swear this movie looked and sounded worse than any movie I’ve seen from the past 30 years by a wide margin.

He’s probably not a pain in the ass on set, he’s professional. He can act. He knows everyone, he’s been in the business forever. His agent is definitely a good one though.
