Yeah. OG Saw is pretty much the epitome of "a good concept with a really bad execution". The elevator pitch was amazing but the script was incredibly lacking. And the idea to emphasize the torture porn aspects of it hurt the film.

And then every single sequel took all the worst aspects and made them the core.

His performance is good, but not nearly the best of the year that year. And that would have been quite the trick considering he wasn't nominated. Now, Morgan Freeman could have won over Hanks, and Hawthorne was fabulous in Madness of King George. There is even an argument that Samuel L. Jackson could have been in the lead category, he had won the Indpendent Spirit Award for Male lead for Pulp Fiction. Robbins is excellent, but I don't think he is doing anything he hadn't done before.

The actual idea in this X movie is pretty interesting - seems to be idea of old age being the horror - or the horror of getting old… this is probably scary to everyone. They certainly made the old people horrific looking. Not sure if this has been done before. To many people and especially to women, losing your looks as you get older is the horror they were highlighting in this.

but I swear in 2017 it was a very normal movie, good sound but all the original actor voices and NOT dubbed i.e. their lips moved correctly to what they were saying. But this version every single actor's voice had been replaced and none of the lips moved to the dialogue correctly.

Sometimes the director, producer, etc doesn't like how the actors sounds. I remember watching Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan...

Andie MacDowell appears on the screen and someone else's voice comes out of her mouth. The director felt her "southern twang" didn't work. Glenn Close dubbed her lines.
