Depends on what "dumb" decisions you're pointing out. Character choosing to explore darkened area for noise-on purpose for the sake of building tension and/or possibly killing off a character. We have no way to know what is in every writer's head.

Reply to Tim Robbins should have won Best Actor for The Shawshank Redemption over Tom Hanks for Forrest Gump by Scmods05
I don't particularly care for Forrest Gump. But Hanks is putting on more of a performance in that than Tim Robbins does in Shawshank imho. Not even that it was showier, just there was more to it. I think Morgan Freeman did a better job than Robbins in Shawshank actually.

Nothing. It was an amazing movie and she was the weakest point.

The DCP would be very lightly compressed though. Even the best Blu-rays are compressed down to a 100GB disc. It might make a difference in very dark scenes where compression artifacts are most likely to be evident. But probably not worth it.
The other thing is that the DCP will likely contain 10+ audio channels. Now, whether there is any home theater system that can decode and play it (maybe a properly set up Dolby ATMOS system?) is TBD.
I know in the r/fanedits community there's a lot of stock placed in getting work print copies and 35mm open mattes of movies.

Yes but when you get locking in a cellar with dead guy by shotgun wielding maniac you don’t scream the house down and continue screaming after you have been let out and run out of house straight at maniac. Normal person would stay quiet and sneak out so maniac doesn’t hear them.

Evidently I'm a different generation that use to be able to just enjoy a good movie without worrying about who is represented and how, what social boxes get checked and how and what may be offensive to people lifetimes from now.
I truly cannot fathom what it must be like to live a life being perpetually offended at everything.

James Cameron is obviously a shithead, so let's leave that aside.
I think the film aged just fine. Our society, on the other hand, is deeply, deeply sick.
When you describe Harry Tasker using his government funded "God" (let's not go there) power to stalk, kidnap, interrogate, and blackmail his wife, you are completely missing the point.
You had remembered it correctly, and I think you know you did.
His wife, to whom he had lied for years and years, was evidently considering an affair which, because of the similarities with his own job, made for a good reason to give her a real taste of the excitement she had not only been seeking but did not know was her husband's life behind her back. There's even plenty of grrl power throughout the film.
Beginning with Die Hard, roughly, this is what action movies were all about: smart ass characters in terrible situations, ingenious solutions, double crossings, somewhat dark senses of humor, and lots of explosions.
That's all this film was. It was great fun in the summer of '94, and that's how it should be seen now. It is to our detriment that our self righteous yet totally ignorant society not only refuses to acknowledge realities about relationships between men and women but tells us we should not enjoy films like this because we decide to forcefully shove politics into EVERYTHING.

But don't they have a higher bitrate and advanced formats like IMAX/3D/HFR?

Main character yes was a string Ripley type character. The others were not though. And yes men in this were dumb as hell.

Congratulations on going out of your way to find, amplify, and emphasize all the bad in a 29 year old movie that was a massive hit at the time, both in comedy and action, as well as parody.

Yep. There is a lot of the Monty Python knight attacking the castle guards stuff in most horror movies!

The video quality isn’t any better. They’re either 3996x2160 (flat) or 4096x1716 (scope). A 4k blue Ray is 3840x2160.

My experience on tense situations is that people rarely think rationally under pressure. Even just playing TTRPGs it is fairly easy to trigger awfully dumb decisions just by putting pressure on the players.
Freeze in place. Run in the wrong direction. Becoming super clumsy. Scream loudly. Those are just normal human things to happen in real dangerous situations.
Also movie characters are not supposed to be aware they are in a horror movie. In real life I don't leave old houses when I hear weird noises, don't care about reading old texts, don't leave the beach when something touches my leg, etc.

You're saying this about a film where the blokes end up as cannon fodder and we're left with a strong female character. Man, I'd like to see your take on the OG Ellen Ripley!

Why would it not be worth it when the quality is way better? I mean, especially when you have a very good high end home theatre, then you could fully use your whole setup by using the highest format for best immersion (like what you get in a public theatre)

Reply to comment by DarkEngineX in Gladiator Maximus and Lucilla backstory? by Confident_Lock_2032
>I always interpreted it like Maximus is the ultimate straight arrow. Lucilla is still a politician born into politics. They aren't compatible people although they might have had an interest in each other growing up. I interpreted it like Lucilla did what she could to survive. She's not evil like Commodus but she's not a hero like Maximus.
So did this affect luccila's choice of who she would marry? Is maximus' allusion to this?

I forgot Tim Robbins wasn't even nominated. But Morgan Freeman had the showier role, he was the narrator and he had the best lines. He also had the more difficult part, playing a killer who reforms and is more humanized. That scene with the parole board was incredible.

If only The Oscars had to do with an actors ability to perform! Nah, Julianne Moore hit the wrong button at the polls and Kim Basinger didn’t.
