Didn't know what type of chromium is being used, but chromium is the main alloy indegrient for making stainless steel. Add some Nickel in it, and you get stainless steel perfectly made for welding, and it is no longer ferro-magnetic.

Yeah, stainless steel contains hexavalent chromium. From Wikipedia:
