Had a simular one at one point(it was a knockoff and slightly newer than 90's), lasted a bit more than a month, 5+ hours of daily use

Yes, trackball. Don't really remember battery life but it takes 2 AAA. Going to see if it still works later.

I used to poke my cat (gently!) with the hard end of his whiskers. He flinched a bit and let out a nearly silent meow. I was just trying to let him know how it felt when I stepped on those. He's been gone a very long time and now I wish I had kept them!
