Yes, you're probably right. Hip is a relative term, I admit to being nearly 50. Not many younger folks find antiques interesting and such. It's not like a thriving downtown bar scene or something but it's way "hipper" than the boonies of NC or more locally a town like Ware or Monson.

I'd assume, even if we build a shitload of housing in and around Boston, it's still going to be more expensive than western MA. If moving isn't an option for whatever reason, then you're always going to be paying that premium. It doesn't make sense to complain about having the choice to move just because that choice isn't available to you for whatever reason.

I’m from NW Georgia originally. That super friendly southern thing is bullshit. It’s more about an image and I can’t tell you how many times i witnessed the friendly conversation in a store only for one of them to start talking shit about the other after they walked off.

We left GA for similar reason OP. We moved to a nice quite part of Chicopee. Almost 2 years now and we love this state. Every place has its issues sure. And people here don’t go out of their way to talk to you unless you know each other . But almost every interaction we have had people have been friendly. Driving is a bit different in the city. People are aggressive as hell but no difference than driving in Atlanta.

We lived in the MTG district so you can only imagine the political environment there. Things do cost a bit more but they pay is so much better than we made for the same jobs down south. I am a photographer and I was charging the same price I did In GA and people though I was crazy here. (I still haven’t raised them because I make enough at that price )

Good luck with your move ! And good luck learning how to pronounce the towns and cities up here. I still look like an idiot trying 😆😆😆

>are larger than anyone would plan for

Whenever your estimating capacity for the 1-3-5-10-20 year marks, you're supposed to go "how many X am I going to need/have in 20 years". Then you double it and then you double that number. Then you think about doubling or increasing it by 50%.

This was just sloppy design work combined with limited resources to build/restructure the schools.

Actually it does affect my neighborhood because we are a boarder town. And if you go to any of the further reaching stops you will see empty commuter rail lots because people don't enjoy commuting on an unreliable system an hour and a half to with in Boston. But we as a community have to support Boston or else we are"NIMNYs"

I've been trying to buy my first house for a long while. It's fun to get outbid by all cash overs that are 100k over any reasonable appraisal amount. It's actually depressing as fuck I make pretty good money and still can't touch the housing market because I'm on the outside looking in.

It makes me pretty resentful not going to lie.

Some of us were unbanned, and there's a thread here for people who were banned to request reinstatement. They can do that even if Linus-Is-Best muted them, which he seems to have done almost automatically.

I know it's only Reddit. But damn it, egotistical little dictators like him piss me off. I'm glad he's gone, and I'm glad he apparently lost 160k+ of the karma he was such a whore for. But part of me wishes he'd been hung from a lamppost like Mussolini.

Looks like this came up in 2018 in MA:

https://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/is-a-bed-bug-addendum-saying-that-i-must-pay-for-b-4006853.html

While not uncommon it seems, unless you admit to it, it would be very hard to prove and hold you liable especially if you live in a large complex.

They’re starting to implement more successful master plans. Can’t say as much in the South Shore but Assembly Row is an incredible example of how proper phasing and master planning for retail/housing/parking can work on an urban scale.

Clustering retail with housing on top has been successful for centuries throughout the world. I’ve been to Derby Street and a few other strip malls and they unfortunately are often large wastelands of asphalt.

The approach of defining small neighborhoods or clusters with ample green space will always be more successful. MarketStreet Lynnfield is a great example of how to achieve this in a suburban setting. Developers should be taking notes. South shore doesn’t need more asphalt. It needs user friendly nodes where people can interact besides just having to shop.
