Well as I asked on your other post, that that you confirmed, and then I explained why, if you TRANSFER a plate to a new car, the month your registration is literally stamped in metal on the plate and can not be changed. So if it is November and your registration expires in March, if you then buy a new car and transfer the registration in Nov. then the expiration still has to be March, so your new expiration date will be 16 months later rather than a full 2 years.

If you want the full two years, then you need to cancel your old plates and get new ones.

Prices for the material have doubled and sometimes tripled since 2020.

Inflation went through the roof.

Minimum wage is now sitting at $15 an hour. Skilled trade wages went up because of that.

Code changes and new regulations have made things much more expensive.

A quote being double what it was 3 years ago is normal.

My sister actually moved to Ohio a few years ago - Athens county near the border of West Virginia. Having lived in MA all my life I was blown away by how low the rents were in OH. She rents a 3 bedroom house for about what I pay for my 350 square foot studio an hour west of Boston. I’d like to move out there myself but there isn’t nearly as much in the way of work for my field as there is here in the industrial northeast. You’re literally moving from one of the lowest cost of living regions of the country to one of the highest, so unfortunately your housing will be significantly higher.

You're looking at ~ $2k/month to rent a comparable spot in the middle of Massachusetts.

If you are going to be in the state for 7+ years it would be much cheaper to buy a home right now, especially in Worcester County. Rates are high 7%+, but you can always refinance and if you're ever planning to go back to Ohio your home will probably be worth much more than you purchased it for. :)

My brother works in this sector and is transitioning to a less physical part of it. That's just the problem. There aren't enough people and it's insanely taxing (he climbs roofs and attics all the time). The cost to get trained and then train them is high.

Equipment cost has skyrocketed so bad that a tool that cost him $5k 3 years ago he could sell used right now for $8k aimce new its $10k.
