I remember when I was kid screwing myself over assuming there would be a snow day then everyone except my school was out and I hadn’t finished my homework. Kids don’t do what I did it’s always better to assume you’ll have class.

The dealer doc fee is nothing more than a straight up cash grab, pure profit. You can negotiate this number down a couple hundred bucks during the sales process.

Hi OP, have you called Subaru of America and mentioned you are a potential buyer? If you have owned subaru previously you can ask if they provide loyalty credits (usually $500) - they will ask for your old VPN to verify or if you get a nice customer rep and explain a discount would push you over another brand car they nay give it to you. This does not take money away from the sales person and should be given after all negotiations )don't even mention it in case they try to argue that as part of your deal. The coupon should be given after final price.

Are they into history/literature/mountains? Go to Arrowhead in Pittsfield and you can look out to the mountains that Herman Melville thought looked like a whale, it’s the view he had from his office while writing Moby Dick. If you go in late spring/summer, you can stand outside the house in the gardens.

I think that's a completely reasonable position; obviously there's context there because changes to the tax code are legislative whereas this is executive action. But "hey let's try something less heavy handed please" makes total sense to me.

For me, I guess I don't want the perfect to be the enemy of the good, and this seems like it could positively affect millions of middle/lower class citizens and stimulate their local economies.

True, but they also don't have to get the sale because of those high fees if the buyer is not willing to pay them. EVERYTHING is negotiable.

I see your point and get it entirely, though I do think you're generalizing an entire generation of people quite unfairly. Plenty of kids are still trying to work their way through college. It's because pell grants and other funding mechanisms were taken away quite intentionally, and student loan financing took over to prey on lower and middle class kids just trying to get some upwards mobility that education got so expensive. When I was financing my education 20 years ago - and doing work study, and working hard physical labor in the summers to pay for the bills, my private university cost ~$35k a year. It was crushing. Now it's twice that because for two decades we've not made lower and middle class education a priority. This is retroactively righting the wrong, anf I support it.
