What country are you from? Certain countries have a fast track to a Massachusetts license. Here’s some info on it, but it’s worth calling the RMV if your country isn’t listed. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/information-for-converting-certain-foreign-drivers-licenses#contact

Edit: also, you should be able to drive on your foreign license with an International Drivers Permit. The IDP is good for one year.

Reply to King Cake by britbanana

Coffee time in Salem has it, they also have Pączki. I have never had New Orleans style king cake so I gave no idea if it’s a good example. The paczki were tasty, the king cake looked a little weird.

I was replying to the “10-20% down” comment. Noting that if someone had the option to put 10-20% down, whatever percentage to avoid PMI would save ( for you $70x12=$840/yr ) and be the better option.

There are pros and cons but when all's said and done you probably won't make significantly more money than before. You may very well end up making less. Obviously the biggest pro is freedom to work the jobs you want, on your own schedule, and for many (including myself), that's worth what effectively amounts to a pay cut.

The cons are no paid time off, not eligible for unemployment, no employer-subsidized health insurance, no dental insurance, no employer matching 401k or other retirement program, more taxes, more paperwork, etc. Also, the sheer responsibility of it all can be exhausting. You know those days where you're just not feeling it so you slack off and read Reddit instead of working? Well, when you're self-employed you no longer get paid to do that.

I have twice said that I am not referring to your sub Reddit. What are you asking me? Do you want me to give you links to examples outside of Reddit of white supremacy, groups being drawn to Anglish?

I’m not going to do that. If you can’t see why a movement to purify the English language back to its German roots is appealing to white supremacists I can’t help you.

I’m not saying that your sub Reddit is a haven for white supremacy. I’m saying that I, personally, don’t want anything to do with it based on my personal experience of having a step son who is a white supremacist.

It technically wouldn't take too long to get a license assuming that you can meet the requirements and pass the tests.

Assuming you are over 18 all you need to do is:

  1. Get a learner's permit (requires taking a multiple choice test on Massachusetts road laws and a vision test)

2.Schedule a driver's test (which requires getting access to a car that meets the requirements and a sponsor who needs to be 21 years of age or older, have a year of driving experience, and possess a valid driver's license in any US state)

PMI is not nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Mine is like $70 per month, I pay more for my cable/internet bill. That's hardly a big deal when you consider what your mortgage will be in most parts of MA anyways.

I don't think there are many situations in a high housing cost state like MA where someone could otherwise afford the mortgage on a house but can't because of the PMI amount.
