As a former teacher, I can appreciate your sentiment here. It's so frustrating to see kids do whatever the hell they want with no real consequences or support to improve. I don't think suspensions are the answer but in a day to day setting, I have to say that when the tougher kids were suspended, it made teaching WAY easier.

The system is a failure but I see a lot of the commenters ignoring that the day to day toll on teachers is immense. We signed up to teach, not to be counselors, second parents, physical protectors and to give up our mental and physical health. While suspension fails to support those students who are struggling and acting out, it does allow the rest of the class to move on and learn in a safe environment.

Also, it has fairly high property tax rates, at 14.1 mills for 2023. For a $700k home, that’s $10k annually. That compares to nearby Andover (13.7 mills, $9600 for a $700k house), Billerica (11.9 mills, $8300 annually), North Reading (14 mills, $10k), Reading (12.6 mills, $8800), Wilmington (11.9 mills, $8300), and Woburn (8.7 mills, $6000).

>you don’t have the perspective necessary

You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. It’s absolutely ridiculous seeing a teacher try to tell a young person that they “don’t have the perspective necessary” when talking about whether young people use “y’all” or not nowadays. As if you have a better perspective on youth slang than a young person does, LOL.

As a young person, I can attest that young people absolutely do use y’all a lot more nowadays.

Maybe your students don’t, but that’s completely anecdotal, and you (should) recognize that.

Your comments always seem to have this oddly hostile & condescending attitude, it’s weird and unnecessary as hell.

Your town may have a housing rehab program, e.g. https://www.plymouth-ma.gov/community-development/pages/housing-rehab-program

Here are some other ideas:

https://www.theresource.org/

> The Resource, for Community and Economic Development, Inc. (TRI) is a non-profit corporation founded in response to a consortium of town and private sector representatives who wished to more actively and innovatively impact housing and economic development in Southeastern and Western Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and Martha's Vineyard.

God damn it ,maybe I'll get camellias in my New Hampshire garden after all.. You can almost just almost grow them on the most sheltered spot on the cape or behind a stone wall in southern Rhode Island.. oh just another zone or two north, no complaints about global warming in northern New England lol ..Just making light I know, of aserious global climate problem.
