I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. You can charge whatever the market will bear on unregulated housing. You can also structure it however you want. I found including free heat and laundry in the rent was hurting me in the search algorithms, so I broke it out into a fixed surcharge and lowered the rent. Separate water charges are common in some areas of the country. I don't see a legal reason a landlord can't simply break out the tenant portion of the tax and call it a separate charge if they like, and lower the 'rent' charge.

>I wonder what the median value of a property in this metro is?

You seem oddly helpless for an admirer of a numbers wonk.

Yea not going to lie. Housing and infrastructure are issues that NJ can win BIG on. Those are his big strengths and he has a proven track record there. Sure, he’s not perfect. But given the NJ political scene, I may have resigned myself to politicians that have their vices.

You're right this will never happen but the petition isn't about feasibility. It's about two things: 1) showing that there is diverse community resistance to Fireman's plans to privatize LSP; and 2) if he really wanted to build a resource for the community, he could do so overnight on his own land.

He's a billionaire with immeasurable wealth and vast real estate holdings. Instead, he devotes his time and energy trying to take away land from the people of NJ. I can't think of a better fight to fight, even if it is quixotic tilting at windmills.

Ah, that certainly won't happen then, but they could call it "shitty place to have a drink" and I would still go every nice night in the summer. In fact, I hope they re-name it to that so people who don't know stay away.

You should share this in the NJ subreddit and other local towns’ subreddits! It would be such poetic justice if this happened.

Paul Fireman: We need active recreation! So let’s use eminent domain to give me part of LSP so I can expand my members-only golf course!

New Jersey: Hmm, if you care so much about recreation for the general public, then why don’t we just eminent domain your golf course and add it to LSP? If you really mean what you say about being so passionate about it, we’re sure you won’t mind!

Paul Fireman: * surprised Pikachu facial expression *
