Reply to Buying cars in Canada vs USA by Majestic_Tomorrow_81
I used to live in Toronto and I’m almost certain your taxes on cars are way higher then ours. It should be much cheaper to buy in the States.
I have a car in Jersey City but you really don’t need one. I would personally wait until you got here.

Another vote for Jersey Cats, Pad Paws, and Next Chance Rescue. All great groups that I've fostered for / supported.
OP - please stay local with your foster / adoption if you can.

I adopted my little guy from Fur Friends in Need. They are local and are 100% foster volunteer based. So no shelter. But they can arrange for a meet and greet and do an amazing job with matching pets with their right humans.

Reply to comment by Outrageous_Canary126 in PATH Noise by Outrageous_Canary126
I live right there, even more in earshot of the path. It's not that bad, I never notice the sound of the Path except for sometimes at night when they blow air horns to signal each other while they are switching out cars but even then I only hear it during the spring when I have my windows open. So, nothing to be worried about and welcome to the neighborhood!

Try a county shelter. I got my shy black cat from Woodbridge, fee was $50. During Spring time they will have plenty of kittens to choose from!

JerseyCats! Totally supportive and amazing, they have saved so many cats. Ask for Beverly. Also they have a foster-to-adopt program with no pressure, so that's amazing for both the people and the cats.

If you don't mind crossing the river, Best Friends Animal Society in SoHo. The NYC ACCs are pretty nice as well.

I'll agree on LHS being a shit show, but that's not the fault of any animal needing a home. Just hold your nose and go local.

Check out the Humane Society of Bergen County in Lyndhurst. We recently adopted a 16-week old kitten from there, and have been donating there for years. They always have a lot of cats and the guy who runs the place is the nicest person.

Reply to Have any of you all lived in Somerset County (Bernardsville specifically) before? by [deleted]
Grew up in Bernardsville and lived there for ~15yrs. You can message me personally if you would like to talk further. But, very nice area. If you don’t care about proximity to NYC it’s a very nice place to raise kids, great school system, and very safe. Not a very diverse town(predominantly wealthy, white families).

I didn’t think I would read “he’s not a bad guy” & “can be very aggressive” in the same sentence today.

Chris is a guy who needs medical assistance, but no one cares. Don't know why he went to jail, tho.He stays in downtown on 3rd and 2nd. He's not a bad guy, but he's heavily on drugs and can be very aggressive.
Police can't do anything, but i feel like the city is responsible for helping him out and offering him proper medical treatment at this point. For everyone's safety.
