Horseshoe, Jersey City

>The Horseshoe section of Jersey City, New Jersey, was the second ward, and was the home of the immigrants, tenements, and taverns. The Republican-controlled Legislature gerrymandered the district in 1871 to concentrate and isolate Democratic, and mostly Catholic, votes, thus preserving Republican dominance in the rest of the state. The curved shape of the district was said to resemble a horseshoe. As competing railroads built cuts through Bergen Hill, they also built viaducts from the foot of the cliff which passed through residential districts to the waterfront.

At this point I am willing to let go money but this is my first experience and the way the landlord has behaved with me all these months has scared me more than anything. Constantly shouting on me, cursing and then pinning all the blame back on either me or my roommates just made me lose faith in humanity. Like how and why would someone behave like this with people who haven’t done anything wrong to them. This is just bad.

I hope it works out for the current residents here. Apparently, it wasn't the case for Cabrini-Greens in Chicago when they went mixed income.

"And of the thousands of families who were promised they could return, more than 80% never did — some were disqualified, relocated or simply overwhelmed with bureaucracy. Many died waiting. Even today, 85 families who used to live in Cabrini-Green are still on decades-old waiting lists to move back. "

This issue coming up by in my background check is exactly what I am worried about. Yeah I am getting similar opinion about the amount being not worth pursuing anything legal from people around me here. I guess I will have to learn to live with this system for bad landlords till I can earn enough to get my own place to live. This incident has scared me of renting anything here in NJ in near future though.

You can file a claim in small claims court. $900 dollars is not enough money to make it worthwhile to pursue litigation. Note that if you sue your landlord it will appear on your background check when you apply to rent future apartments and you will be automatically denied.
