It doesn't literally start with big if true, I meant that this starting paragraph in the editorial:
> The Jersey City Times has received an unconfirmed report that this week’s secret mayoral junket to Paris was paid for with federal Covid money. It could be just a rumor, although the source insists that it is reliable.
Is basically saying "big if true".
And editorial or not it should disclose sources and stick to facts. I agree that trips taken by public officials on official business should have everything disclosed. But this isn't disclosing anything, it's just speculation based off a rumor. Where you know... as a newspaper they could actually look deeper into it and report back real information.

Speculation, but this is yet another unforced error. Just shooting oneself in the dick in a completely avoidable situation

Oh well if they insist.

It's not an article, it's an editorial and it didn't start with or contain the words "big if true", my post did and i stand by it.
You can't have a secret 8-strong junket to Paris, refuse to say who paid for it and then get upset when there's speculation.

Very easy, just compare the assessment of a local property with a store vs similar ones without. https://oprs.co.monmouth.nj.us/oprs/External.aspx?iId=12
265 8th st, AKA 'Walt's Liquor", commercial property with store and 3 units $964,600
267 8th st 4 units $1,284,600
269 8th st 4 units $1,419,600
Note that 265 is a corner and obviously worth more just in land value.

I called and its just for street sweeping, so they're enforcing permits, meters etc.

agree. i like my neighborhood and my apt but on the whole jc is a joke at the government/administration level which directly translates to these easily addressable quality of life issues.

I saw a parking ticket on a car just before, so I assume they are still enforcing parking regulations, just not street cleaning.

Not a good sign of journalistic integrity to start an article with "big if true".
I'm not defending anything about the trip. This article is poorly sourced and written. Didn't know we just write "news" based off unconfirmed rumors (which could be as reputable as "we made it up").
Alert us when it is confirmed facts not rampant speculation. That's the point of journalism, finding the facts.

Reply to comment by pixel_of_moral_decay in How much does a real estate lawyer cost for a standard condo purchase in JC? Looking to get an idea based on your experience. by ilikeUni
This. Your realtor is NOT a fiduciary, nor do they have any legal requirement to act in your best interests (and it is in their best financial interests to align with the listing agent on most matters). Your lawyer is the only person who is truly in your corner during this transaction.
That said, $1200-$2000 is about right for a standard, residential closing (I probably wouldn't go with your realtor's rec).
EDIT: OK, I misspoke due to my disdain for the real estate industry. Yes, realtors do have a nebulous legal obligation to "act in the best interests" of their client--as does any fiduciary. But see comment below as to why they rarely do.

Not sure why the JCPA refuses to be proactive about tweeting stuff like this. It would take a whole lot of one minute to post a message. Maybe two, if they want to proof-read it multiple times for glaring errors. I have their Twitter feed bookmarked but it is poorly maintained.

For a city with a billion-dollar budget, the fact that we need to rely on facebook posts by councilmen to learn about critical city services is pathetic.

Just an FYI, the operation of the light rail was contracted out under a "design build operate" contract that is expiring. NJ Transit is in the process of scoping out a new operating agreement and will be looking to go to bid for new a contract.
What that means for getting hired, long term employment, is anyone's guess.

Food is definitely a notch or two higher than you'd expect.
OP almost certainly has the norovirus - which I myself got a couple weeks ago and at first confused for food poisoning as well until it lingered for a bit. It's really going around right now.
